The work undertaken by The James Hutton Group is at the top of the global agenda tackling problems such as the impact of climate change and threats to food, crops, natural biodiversity, soils and water security.
The job is to assist an existing team in producing microbiological growth media, stock solutions and sterile plasticware in support of many science projects on the Dundee James Hutton Institute site. Training will be provided, and the working hours will be 25 hours per week from 8.30 Monday - Friday.
Main Duties of Postholder
Follow existing protocols for provision of standard and specialised growth media, agar plates, reagents, solutions and consumables to all science programmes within the James Hutton Institute as required by scientific staff to carry out research.
To maintain quality control through ISO9001 including keeping of accurate records.
Work alongside supervisor and two other team members to maintain laboratory cleanliness and follow health and safety guidelines.
Liaise with scientists regarding requirements and progress of specialist items.
Continue to learn procedures and protocols, attend relevant training and health and safety courses.
Education/Experience/Skills
Essential
Ability to work, cleanly, accurately and in an organised and methodical manner.
Willingness to learn new skills and work without supervision.
Basic computing skills to keep records and communicate clearly.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Desirable
Qualifications (Highers or HNC) and an interest in science subjects.
Previous laboratory experience, making up solutions, handling micro-pipettes and basic microbiology.
