Job Description


The MediaLab is a new initiative at Queen\xe2\x80\x99s University Belfast that provides digital prototyping space for advanced media research and production; delivery of innovation skills to support real-time 3d & Metaverse development and capacity to support knowledge transfer for industrial sectors with advanced media and data visualisation needs.

We are currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Medialab Technician and you will provide technical expertise in the implementation, development, administration and support of the MediaLab\xe2\x80\x99s digital prototyping and data capture services utilizing advanced media production techniques and game technologies.

You will be responsible for the provision of high quality technical services including the organisation and supervision of the MediaLab AV, Immersive & IoT equipment, laboratories & studio. The role will also involve the planning and coordination of technical support work and will contribute to the delivery of the teaching, research and commercial activities within the MediaLab.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:

  • A Degree or higher degree in Film, Broadcast, VFX, Game Development, Computer Science or related field; OR HND level 5, with significant professional experience in a technical role in either Film, Broadcast, VFX, Game Development or System administration.
  • Significant experience developing content in 3D environments or system administration role.
  • Demonstrable experience with 3D content creation tools and game engines.
  • Demonstrable experience executing technically complex work and maintaining a productive attitude under pressure.
  • Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Office suite and the application of digital skills in a collaborative multi-discipline environment.

There are two fixed term posts available:
  • Post 1: Fixed Term for 29 months
  • Post 2: Fixed Term for 36 months
Fixed term contract posts are available for the stated period in the first instance but in particular circumstances may be renewed or made permanent subject to availability of funding.
