Overview


The post-holder must have availability during School term time and the flexibility to work as the need arises. Some student appointments are pre-planned, Monday to Friday, while others are at short notice for emergencies. If you feel you have the time and the flexibility to assist when required, with minimal notice for some appointments, this is the role for you, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Responsibilities



To accompany the student to hospital or other medical appointment, as required by the Medical Centre. Transportation will be provided by local taxi firm. To be able to respond appropriately and handle incidents of misbehaviour on behalf of the student. Serious misbehaviour must be reported to the Medical Centre Lead. To attend relevant training courses as and when required, maintaining a thorough knowledge and understanding of specific School policies as required. This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties. The School reserves the right, after appropriate consultation with you, to vary your duties and responsibilities within the parameters of your role and competence in order to respond to changes in the needs of the service. The post holder must be aware of and comply with all School policies and procedures. To work to instructions supplied prior to the commencement of any journey and respond to any reasonable request for changes during the journey. To support students to and from their boarding house or medical centre and occasionally other facilities in a manner that is sensitive to their needs. To work in co-operation with the Medical Centre to ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided to the student. To be responsible for the student escorted between the School and medical establishment, ensuring their safety during the journey, i.e. seatbelts fastened, comfortable, etc. The Medical Centre will advise you regarding an individual student's special requirements or documentation needed. To possess tact and diplomacy in dealing with students, parents/guardians, and other outside agencies. To keep strictest confidence regarding information shared about the circumstances of the student or the family. The escort may be asked to carry items between School and the medical establishment. These may consist of medicines, equipment, money, and communications. The items should be stowed safely in transit and handed over to a responsible member of School or medical staff on arrival or return. In the undertaking of their duties, the escort has a responsibility to report any accident or incidents to the Medical Centre Lead or, if not available, other Medical Centre staff. In the event of a child becoming ill or their condition worsening, it is the duty of the escort to ensure that immediate medical treatment is obtained. The escort is responsible for contacting the Medical Centre. To be responsible for handing a student over to a member of Medical Centre or Boarding House when they return to School.

This role is on an ad hoc and may take place on any day of the week, at any time - day or night.

For assignments 0800am - 1800pm, the pay rate is 14.25 per hour, with a minimum payment of 2 hours. For escort duties that occur after 1800pm (until 0800am), the enhanced pay rate is 21.30 per hour, also with a 2-hour minimum payment.
