We are now looking for an experienced

Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA)

to join our well-established Crawley Clinic, providing high-quality care and efficient sample collection.

Job Summary



We are seeking a reliable and motivated MLA to support our busy Biochemistry and Haematology departments. You will play an essential role in both the pre-analytical and analytical stages, ensuring timely and accurate sample handling while contributing to the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service.

Role Details



Contracted hours:

40 hours per week, set out on a rota, including weekends and out-of-hours shifts, in line with laboratory requirements.

Core hours:

Monday-Friday, 09:00 - 19:00 (excluding Bank Holidays).

Saturday shift:

08:00 - 18:00.

Shift flexibility:

You must be able to cover different patterns, which may include: Monday to Friday Tuesday to Saturday Occasional later shifts finishing at 21:00 A future afternoon/evening shift (14:00 - 23:00) once this rota is introduced

Cover requirements:

Flexibility is also required to provide cover for colleagues' sickness and annual leave within the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities



Accurately input patient/sample data into the Laboratory Information System. Barcode, sort, and prepare specimens (centrifugation, aliquoting, freezing). Assist Biomedical Scientists with routine tasks under supervision. Transport samples within laboratory departments. Handle phone/email queries and liaise with healthcare professionals courteously. Assist with stock control, equipment checks, and basic maintenance. General housekeeping, admin duties, and report printing. Adhere to all protocols, safety guidelines, and data confidentiality standards.

Essential Skills & Qualifications



Legal right to work in the UK (no sponsorship available).

At least

1 year continuous MLA practice

(required). Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and IT/data entry skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Good hand-eye coordination, speed, and efficiency. Prior experience in a healthcare or laboratory environment is essential. Flexible to work varied shifts including evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays (overtime pay provided). Willingness to complete mandatory training and competency assessments.

Qualifications



Knowledge of laboratory practices and procedures. Understanding of physiology, anatomy, and basic life support techniques. Excellent organisational skills and proactive approach to learning new techniques.
