The Haematology laboratory is state of the art, superbly equipped and handles the workload of University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Working as part of a team, this is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, knowledge and experience in a highly automated clinical Haematology Department. The Laboratory is responsible for servicing the Haematology pathology needs of UCLH which is the largest Cancer referral centre in Western Europe, it is also a National referral centre for Thrombotic Thrombocytopaenic Purpura (TTP). There is a large cohort of Haematology Oncology referral work and also a large Haemoglobinopathy support requirement and as such the Blood Film Morphology seen is extremely varied and second to none. Novel therapies such as the CAR-T therapy make for some morphological anomalies rarely seen elsewhere.

The blood Transfusion department is a blood establishment with a varied workload from University College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust which includes sites such as the Macmillan Cancer Centre and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. The BT service also supports the TTP plasma exchange service as well as the Red cell exchange needs of the Red cell/Day care unit and Bone Marrow Transplantation unit.

Combined the departments incorporate routine Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Coagulation, and blood film morphology service. The ideal candidate will contribute to providing a professional and technical laboratory service working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department and to work independently performing routine analyses with support as required from Biomedical Scientists. This is an exciting and vibrant opportunity for an enthusiastic professional set near the west end of London with great travel links. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the extended hours/night duty rota, participating in shifts to support the needs of the 24/7 requirements of the service as allocated by the Head of Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratories.
