Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Phlebotomist / Medical Laboratory Assistant working out of both Grimsby Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) and Diana Princess of Wales Pathology Laboratory.



This is an important patient facing role working primarily within the CDC, with rotations into the Phlebotomy Clinic at DPOW Hospital, DPOW ward phlebotomy and working within the Pathology Laboratory. Communication skills and experience of computer input work is essential, and applicants should be able to demonstrate these skills.



The candidate should be literate and numerate, GCSE Grade C or above in mathematics and English. Previous phlebotomy experience would be advantageous, however full training will be provided.

Hours:

The hours will be worked as 6hr shifts; 8:00-14:00 and 14:00-20:00, 7days a week on a rolling shift pattern.



The successful candidate will be expected to work as part of the phlebotomy team and within multidisciplinary Blood Sciences laboratory, after appropriate training and completion of the relevant in-house competencies.



This post specifically covers Phlebotomy service on the Grimsby Community Diagnostic Centre and the Grimsby General hospital.

The main responsibilities of the successful candidate will be:

Receipt and Processing of pathology samples



Entering patient requests using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)



Assist in the provision of the phlebotomy service to both inpatients and outpatients



Loading/unloading and filing of samples



Housekeeping and maintaining Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)



Communicating results and other queries with service users by telephone or other means
