North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service are looking to recruit a Medical Laboratory Associate Practitioner in Point of Care Testing.



Location:

Primary location Royal Stoke Hospital with a requirement to attend other sites in the network on a weekly basis.



Role Summary

To be an efficient and flexible member of the POCT laboratory team assisting in the delivery of the service. The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within Pathology, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) to provide technical support to Biomedical Scientists to ensure a high quality service in all areas of the relevant Pathology Discipline. The tasks will include; sample preparation; operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and updating of information systems. To supervise and allocate quality control and training tasks to Ward Support Workers. To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Scientific, Technical and Analytical Duties

Uses knowledge gained through formal qualifications Resolves problems with sample quality or where additional information to perform the test is required. Undertakes analysis of samples according to departmental SOPs using highly complex equipment. Reads and reports results of simple non-interpretive manual investigations. Undertakes planned preventative maintenance on highly complex/specialised equipment. Performs calibrations and validates quality control within acceptable ranges. Refers to BMS for out of range QC. Records generated test results prior to validation by BMS Performs and reports EQA results under supervision by BMS staff Uses fine tools for accurate working e.g pipettes Sorts and prepares samples for delivery to other locations according to departmental SOPs and current postal regulations Performs general housekeeping duties. Communicates information (this may include test results where departmental policies allow) to clinicians and other colleagues ensuring that this is understood and transcribed correctly and record appropriately. Disposes of specimens, documentation and general waste appropriately according to confidentiality, health & safety requirements and departmental SOPs. Undertakes basic office duties, including answering the telephone and managing emails.

ADDITIONAL ROLES AND DUTIES:



In additional to the points laid out in the main job description the post holder will also:

Performs moderately complex manual tests under indirect supervision Supervises, trains and assesses competency of ward staff Writes and reviews SOPs for POCT processes. Facilitates the POCT audit programme by planning and completing audits under supervision of BMS staff and the Quality Management Team * Performs first line troubleshooting and simple maintenance / fix procedures for POCT devices.
