To ensure that the surgery reception operates in an efficient, professional and effective way and to handle ALL patient encounters and enquiries with professionalism, courtesy and understanding.
Main duties:
Opening up the surgery premises and preparing them for the day or closing the premises at the end of the day, i.e. checking waiting rooms for lights and ensuring they are tidy, switching computers on/off - including electronic patient information boards and self check-in system, restoring/transferring telephone services (if required), setting/unsetting alarm system etc.
Have knowledge of and work with in the agreed reception protocol.
Answering the telephone and dealing with appointment requests. Dealing with all other requests appropriately. Ensuring that the computer appointments system is accurately maintained.
Receiving and routing patients on their arrival.
Answering general enquiries at the reception desk, explaining surgery procedures, receive and hand out repeat prescriptions (using identified protocol), make new and follow up appointments for all surgery clinicians.
Have knowledge of responsibility regarding Health and Safety at Work Act.
Take responsibility for specific allocated tasks e.g. prescriptions, scanning, ordering vaccines, patient record administration etc. as required by your role.
To have knowledge of the roles of immediate team members to enable effective cover during holidays.
Any other duties which may be deemed necessary for the effective running of the practice.
