We are looking for a communications intern to help shine a spotlight on the transformative impact of chemical, biochemical and process engineering worldwide. By working closely with colleagues across all areas of the institution - particularly Member Experience and Policy teams - you'll play a hands-on role in sharing stories, knowledge and insights that inspire engineers current and future, help strengthen the profession, and demonstrate how chemical engineers are addressing some of the global grand challenges. This includes producing high-quality reports and responses to government policy releases.

Our ideal candidate will have:



A degree (or working towards a degree) in chemical engineering, engineering or a related STEM discipline - with an interest in applying technical knowledge in new contexts Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt style for different audiences Basic understanding of digital communication tools (e.g., social media platforms, newsletters, websites) Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines A genuine interest in the chemical engineering profession and its role in addressing global challenges. Strong attention to detail, with an excellent level of accuracy Ability to plan and prioritise workloads, and meet exacting deadlines Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills Ability to work successfully as part of a team, as well as individually Confidence and professionalism to represent IChemE at external events and to work alongside our members



Core responsibilities



Content creation & storytelling



Draft, edit and publish engaging digital content (articles, blogs, newsletters, videos) that highlights the work and impact of chemical engineers globally. Translate technical concepts into accessible, compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

Social media & digital engagement



Support the management of IChemE's social media channels by creating new and engaging content and ideas, monitoring engagement, and contributing creative ideas to grow reach and engagement. Celebrate and promote member achievements, IChemE initiatives, and chemical engineering contributions to global challenges.

Internal & external communications



Assist in preparing and distributing timely communications to IChemE members, staff and stakeholders. Contribute ideas and deliverables to multi-channel campaigns and projects that showcase IChemE's progress towards strategic goals and strengthen its reputation.

Member and community support



Work with all areas of the institution to gather and share member stories, case studies and insights. Support IChemE's Member Groups and Special Interest Groups by promoting their activities, helping to raise awareness of events, encouraging participation and strengthening their role as vibrant and thriving professional communities.

Monitoring & reporting



Track performance of digital channels and campaigns, providing feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement. Help ensure communications are aligned with IChemE's brand, tone and strategic objectives.

Advancing IChemE's mission



Act as an ambassador for IChemE's vision to support a vibrant and thriving chemical engineering profession. Ensure communications reflect the values of professionalism, sustainability and innovation that underpin the discipline.

Due to IChemE's international nature, this position requires a willingness to work flexibly and to engage in business discussions outside of normal working hours.


The position is based in the UK with flexible working arrangements - currently the requirement is at least three days in the Rugby office and the remainder working from home - however, this is flexible according to business need.




Only candidates eligible to work in the UK will be considered.


This is a permanent full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week working Monday through to Friday.




Starting salary will be in the region of

26,700

per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.
