We are looking for high-calibre person to join our Student Support Services team as a
Mental Health Advisor
. This is a fixed term, full-time position starting around mid April 2026 to January 2027. The position will be based at the
Manchester campus
and will be working with students using our Online provision as well as the traditional face to face campus'.
Please note: this is a hybrid position, with a minimum of two days on campus per week
There will be a requirement to work with students across the whole student population (UK & International settings) and occasional travel to other campuses will be necessary.
As Mental Health Advisor you will play an active part in the overarching Wellbeing Team, sharing ideas and knowledge with other members of the team and with colleagues in the wider student support services department.

s our Mental Health Advisor
,
you will:
Provide specialist confidential mental health support to students who are referred in to the service by academic and business professional staff across the University
Maintain a caseload of complex mental health cases ensuring risk is managed effectively in line with the University's policies
Work in collaboration with other Student Support Services colleagues in the promotion of mental wellbeing within the student and wider University community.
Work closely with Student Support Services colleagues to develop clear pathways for referrals within the department and to external groups
Provide expert advice, support and training to University staff in supporting students with mental health issues.
We are looking for people who are/have:
Recognised and current mental health nursing, mental health social work and/or a mental health based qualification or experience.
Relevant recent experience of working in a Mental Health setting such as IAPT, CMHT, University/College Mental Health Team
Experience of managing a complex case load of clients presenting with a range of mental health conditions.
Knowledge of the mental health needs of young adults and/or students in higher education and how to refer cases into NHS and voluntary sector bodies.
Expert knowledge and skill of undertaking mental health needs and risk assessments
Ability to work flexibly in response to mental health crisis or other similar urgent situations, including flexible working hours and locations
