This new part-time, permanent post is a term time only position for 21.54 hours a week for 36 weeks a year, available from the 22nd of September 2025.
This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working - some time on campus and some from home.
Summary of the role/position
We are currently seeking to recruit a flexible and adaptable mental health & ASC/ ADHD mentor to join our highly skilled and committed DSA team. This role involves delivering mental health mentoring and support for Autistic Students or students with ADHD. This role enables students to manage their mental health or condition in relation to their academic progression, promoting strategies for independent learning and self-management. The team are part of the University's Wellbeing and Welfare Service, which also includes our Psychological Therapies team, AccessAbility team and Welfare service.
This post will be a term time contract (paid over 52 weeks). The anticipated working pattern being 21:54 hours a week and expected work to take place over 36 weeks, primarily in the university term time. Flexible working patterns are available and part time hours will be considered.
About you
You will need to be a qualified and highly experienced mental health professional, with a core professional training in Mental Health Nursing, Social Work or Occupational Therapy (for example), and accredited with their relevant professional body e.g. HCPC/NMC/BABCP/BACP/UKCP. You will have significant experience in supporting individuals with mental health disabilities and a real interest in managing complex difficulties. In addition, you will need the relevant qualifications to support students with Autism and ADHD. In all circumstances, you must meet the 2023 DSA DfE Mandatory Criteria for Band 4 Specialist Mentor.
The role involves close liaison and joint working across the Wellbeing Service to support students with a range of disabilities alongside liaison with other university staff and external agencies (e.g. GP, statutory mental health services and voluntary sector agencies). You will also be committed to the advancement of inclusive practice and widening access to this important student community.

Wellbeing Services
Wellbeing Services operate to help students get the most out of their time at University. Health and wellbeing are crucial ingredients of effective study as well as a rich and fulfilling student experience. But staying well in body and mind isn't always easy at university. We recognise that it's much more difficult to learn and enjoy student life when personal difficulties or emotional worries arise.
Our Wellbeing Team offers a range of services to support students personally and in their studies when difficulties occur. Our Team Our Wellbeing team, made up of therapists and mental health practitioners, are all highly skilled and experienced in recognising how psychological and mental health difficulties can affect a student's studies. They offer advice, therapeutic and practical support to help students to cope personally and to manage their studies
