Job Overview

The Mental Health Specialist is responsible for the effective coordination and management of psychiatric and psychological referrals. This role involves carrying out and overseeing triage processes, liaising with psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists to ensure timely assessments and treatment, monitoring clinical outcomes, and ensuring high standards of risk management and safeguarding throughout the referral pathway.

Responsibilities

Manage and coordinate incoming psychiatric referrals. Conduct clinical triage for psychiatry and psychology referrals to determine appropriate pathways and priorities. Liaise with psychiatrists and psychologists regarding assessments, treatment planning, and continuity of care. Evaluate and monitor outcomes of psychiatric and psychological treatment. Liaise with the clinical support team regarding referral management and client communication. Monitor, record, and respond to clinical risk and safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policies and procedures. Ensure effective communication and collaboration on psychiatric referrals between clinical, operational, and administrative teams to ensure smooth client journey.

Skills

Strong clinical assessment and triage skills. Experience managing or coordinating referrals within a multidisciplinary team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Competence in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other digital platforms for clinical documentation. Knowledge of neurodiversity assessment an advantage

Qualifications

Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC registration. Prescribing rights would be an advantage. Proven experience working within psychology and psychiatry outpatient or community mental health settings. Sound clinical knowledge of mental health presentations and treatment pathways.
