Role Purpose



To provide emotional, practical, and therapeutic support to young people experiencing mental health difficulties in a EBD Residential Childrens Home. The role aims to promote wellbeing, build resilience, and empower young people to achieve and maintain positive mental health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities



1. Direct Support to Young People in the home and community



Provide 1:1 support sessions to young people aged 13-17 years old, focusing on mental health, wellbeing, and coping strategies. Facilitate group work, workshops, or peer-support activities. Support young people in building confidence, resilience, and independent living skills. Develop and deliver personalised support plans based on assessed needs.

2. Assessment & Safeguarding



Conduct initial assessments to identify mental health needs and associated risks. Monitor and record changes in young people's wellbeing. Follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately. Work collaboratively with parents/carers (where appropriate) and other professionals.

3. Multi-Agency Collaboration



Liaise with schools, social workers, mental health services, CAMHS, GPs, and community organisations. Attend team meetings, case reviews, and multi-agency panels. Advocate on behalf of young people to ensure they receive appropriate support.

4. Recording & Administration



Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and records in line with organisational policies. Contribute to service reports, monitoring, and evaluation. Support the delivery of service outcomes and contractual requirements.

5. Professional Development



Attend training in mental health, safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and relevant interventions. Reflect on practice and participate in supervision sessions. Stay up to date with legislation, best practice, and emerging issues affecting young people.

Person SpecificationEssential



Experience supporting young people with mental health or emotional wellbeing needs. Residential Children Home experience Level 3 in Health and Social Care Understanding of mental health conditions, trauma, self-harm, and risk factors. Strong communication and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and professionally. Commitment to safeguarding and equality, diversity, and inclusion. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic IT and record-keeping skills. Relevant qualification (e.g., psychology, counselling, social care, youth work). Training in mental health first aid, trauma-informed practice, or risk assessment. Experience working in schools, community support, or health settings. Knowledge of local support services and referral pathways.

Working Conditions



Flexible hours, evenings/weekends. Combination of community-based and childrens home. Travel between locations may be required.
Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: 13.00-17.00 per hour
