About Us
INSIGHT Wellbeing Services Ltd is a therapeutic and trauma-informed mentoring and tuition service dedicated to improving the emotional health, wellbeing, and educational outcomes of children and young people. We are currently delivering The Elevate Project, a new initiative supporting young people in Middlesbrough who are either in care, on the edge of care, or at risk of permanent exclusion.
We are now seeking
experienced, compassionate, and flexible freelance mentors
to join our team and make a genuine difference in a young person's life.
The Role
As a mentor, you will provide 1:1 therapeutic support to young people in the community, focusing on building relationships, increasing engagement with education, and improving emotional wellbeing. You will work in a trauma-informed and relational way, helping children and young people understand the difference between positive and unhealthy relationships and develop strategies for navigating their world safely and confidently.
Key responsibilities include:
Delivering 3-5 hours of support per week per child
Planning and facilitating meaningful and engaging sessions
Building trusted, consistent relationships with children and young people
Maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding practices
Liaising with families, education, and social care professionals
Attending monthly supervision and team meetings
Submitting brief, high-quality session write-ups
Monitoring progress using tools such as the OCTO framework
Essential Criteria:
Minimum of 1 year's experience working with children or young people in education, social care, youth work or a therapeutic setting
A therapeutic and relational approach to practice
Excellent communication, empathy, and patience
Flexible, reliable, and able to work independently
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles
Enhanced DBS on the
Update Service (this is essential)
Self-employed with a
valid UTR number
and ability to manage own tax returns
Access to a vehicle and willingness to travel within Middlesbrough (travel time typically no more than 30 minutes from home)
Pay and Conditions:
20 per hour (freelance)
0.40 per mile
for travel to and from sessions
Monthly payment upon receipt of invoice
All mentors will receive monthly supervision and access to support from our in-house Psychotherapist
