Role Overview
This hybrid role combines
estimating for incoming construction and MEP projects
with
cost control across ongoing works
. You will be responsible for
pricing tenders
, attending sites and client meetings, and managing project costs from pre-construction through to final account.
You'll work closely with directors, engineers, and clients -- ensuring accurate pricing, strong commercial control, and protecting project margin from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating:
Review incoming job enquiries, tender documents, and client scopes
Prepare detailed and competitive estimates for
full building and MEP packages
Carry out site visits and attend pre-tender/client meetings as required
Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors for up-to-date pricing
Build tender submissions and handover to operations team
Cost Management:
Attend live projects to monitor site progress and validate cost position
Track labour, material, and subcontractor spend against original estimates
Record and support variation submissions and applications for payment
Conduct post-project cost reviews and lessons learned
Maintain cost control logs and margin forecasting tools
Skills & Experience
Essential:
3+ years in a similar role within construction, M&E contracting, or cost control
Strong knowledge of estimating processes for construction and MEP works
Comfortable reading drawings, preparing take-offs, and creating BoQs
Commercially aware with good negotiation and supplier engagement skills
Strong communication and presentation skills
Fully office-based with regular travel to
live sites and client locations
Desirable:
Background with principal contractors or subcontractors across multiple trades
Familiarity with NEC/JCT contracts and variation processes
Estimating or QS software experience
