We are currently recruiting for an experienced Metallic Machinist (Turner) to join our Machine Shop here at Williams Racing. In this role you will be producing complex components for the Race Car and associated jigs and fixtures on our DMG Mori NLX Lathes. Our department objective is to produce key parts in the most efficient, cost effective way, maintaining tight delivery deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work.
Main Duties:

  • To ensure components are produced in the most efficient, cost effective way whilst keeping lead-times to a minimum.
  • Where appropriate, communicate and collaborate with TPP (Toolpath Programming) when solving problems machining first-off components and/or offer solutions that may further improve the quality or runtime of the job.
  • To proactively liaise with both fellow machinists within the Machine Shop and other areas within the business to ensure best practice is established and utilised.
  • Carry out all possible inspection during the machining of any first off components, establish that a first off is correct and ensure that the remainder of the batch meets the same standard.
  • Ensure that all relevant shop floor data is collected and is accurately recorded using Data Collection Software when required.
  • Ensure communication to other shifts is thorough and accurate so that a smooth handover results in minimum loss in production time using written and verbal communication as necessary.
  • All information pertaining to the running of the job must be clearly and accurately recorded to ensure the smooth running of future demand using the preferred handover notebook.
  • Communicate ideas and suggestions regarding more efficient / effective production to the Supervisor/Team Leader.

  • Ensure understanding of cost cap rules and requirements.
Core Competencies:
  • The ability to program manually and/or conversationally would be advantageous.
  • The need to run multiple machines and plan-ahead is regularly required.
  • Be able to demonstrate a good depth of machining knowledge both CNC and Manual in a low volume, high accuracy, fast paced prototype environment.
Qualifications
  • Good level of knowledge manufacturing metallic and non-metallic components from aircraft grade metallic and high-quality engineering plastics.
  • A strong knowledge of setting and operating Fanuc controlled Lathes/Turn-Mill machine tools.
  • Ideally possess a recognised apprenticeship or have gained relevant experience in a precision engineering environment.
