Brackenfield School is an area special school for the South of Derbyshire, providing an exciting and relevant education for young people with complex needs including communication and comprehension difficulties.
The Headteacher and Governors wish to appoint a Midday Care & Support Assistant working across the school to support the health, first aid and intimate care needs of pupils.
The successful candidate will join an experienced team of teachers, STLAs (Specialist Teacher and Learning Assistants) and LSAs (Learning Support Assistants) who support young people aged 3 to 19, working developmentally between birth and 6years of age.
All of our young people have profound and multiple, complex and severe learning needs.
The successful applicants will promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, being an adaptable team player, promoting growth mindset through recognition of character education and be able to encourage pupil independence.

Duties
Assist children with eating their lunchtime meal: promoting good table manners; social skills; hygiene; assisting with feeding when necessary
Use correct manual handling procedures and equipment as necessary (training provided)
Provide first aid support to pupils
Assist pupils with intimate care needs including toileting, changing and hygiene routines in a respectful and dignified manner.
Accurately record all intimate care and first aid
Follow individual healthcare plans and medical protocols as directed by healthcare professionals and school staff.
Implement and support programmes designed to promote independent living skills (e.g dressing, toileting, handwashing, self-feeding)
Engage pupils in play and structured activities
Interact with students through positive communication and deal promptly with any issues
Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff and parents/carers to ensure consistent care
Participate in relevant training (e.g safeguarding, first aid, manual handling)
Follow all school policies, including those related to safeguarding, behaviour and confidentiality.

Essential:
Experience Knowledge, Training & Qualifications Level 2 Qualification
Ability to follow policy and procedure
Relevant experience in meeting the personal care and health needs of people
A criminal record check is required as part of the recruitment process
