We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and committed Midday Play Leader to join our team at Parklands Community Primary School starting January 2026.

Role Responsibilities:
Encourage and lead active play outdoors during lunchtime.
Supervise indoor play during lunchtime club and wet play.
Support positive behaviour following our therapeutic approach.
Supervise in the dining hall and assist with lunchtime service when required.

What You Need to Succeed
After School Club Play Leader (12 - 1:30pm) Scale 2
Responsible to:
Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher
Main Purpose of the Job
To work as part of a team to provide high quality play experience for all pupils during the after-school club within a happy and caring environment.
General Duties
To be responsible for promoting positive play experiences and opportunities for the children after school.
To encourage, support and foster positive relationships between children by providing positive and active play experiences and opportunities.
To support and co-ordinate Junior Play leaders in setting up activities.
To administer first aid when required and record all incidents on medical tracker.
Playground Supervision
To lead on the setting up and organisation of equipment and resources for the children to use during the after-school club.
To be responsible for ensuring all equipment is put away at the end of play as necessary ensuring no equipment is left lying around.
To actively monitor and supervise children during the after-school club to ensure all pupils are involved in positive play experiences.
To actively support pupils in the playground/ play area by teaching them to play co-operatively, introducing them to a range of playtime games and activities.
Pastoral Care
To promote self-discipline, high standards of behaviour and positive attitudes on the part of all children and to implement the school policies and procedures to foster them.
To take prompt action when dealing with accidents and incidents and reporting accidents and incidents to the after-school club manager.
To report concerns of child abuse to a designated safeguarding lead or in her/his absence to the deputy designated safeguarding lead and record on CPOMS.
To listen to children and respond to their needs in accordance with school policy and procedure.
To attend to the health, welfare and safety of the children during after school time adhering to the school Health and Safety policy and procedures at all times.
To prepare a light snack for the children in line with the food safety standards.
Professional Development
To ensure own continuing professional development by attending training and development opportunities when need is identifies.
To attend meetings for play leaders and Inset days when required.
To hold a current First Aid certificate or to do the necessary training to obtain one.
To hold food safety qualification.
Communication and Community Links
To maintain confidentiality at all times including implementing data protection policies.
To contribute positively to and support the overall aims and ethos of the school.
To fully support the life and work of the school.
To develop and maintain positive, constructive and effective professional relationships with staff, parents, carers, advisors and support professionals the local community and Governors.
In addition to undertake such duties of a similar nature as may be reasonably directed by your line manager from time to time. The duties and responsibilities of the post may vary from time to time according to the changing needs of the school.
