The Emergency Services Unit is the security arm of Coventry City Council. The Service operates 24/7 365 days a year. Our services included responding to Fire, Intruder, and Panic Alarms. The team also provides security services such as patrolling, guarding, and keyholding services to our Schools and other Council departments. We also support the Council's response to emergencies in the City.
The Services monitors a telecare service that involves monitoring the safety of vulnerable residents in the City from their homes. The service is also responsible for monitoring the Public Surveillance CCTV system in the City Centre and various CCTV systems operating in Coventry.
Partnership working is a big part of our service. We work with colleagues from West Midlands Police, the Local Business Improvement District, the Fire, and the ambulance service to keep our city safe.

What is the job role?
As a Monitoring and Response Officer, you will be responsible for a wide range of tasks such as handling calls from both professionals and members of the public through the Council's phone systems and radio system. You will operate the City Council's CCTV systems and liaise with partners such as West Midlands Police to support in the prevention and detection of crime and anti-social behaviour.
Working within your team, you will be responsible for providing security services to our clients, such as security patrols and man guarding services, highway duties, and responding to alarms.
You will be responsible for monitoring our telecare service. This involves speaking to clients when they have pressed their alert pendants in an emergency and coordinating a response with the emergency services, relatives, or carers to ensure they are safe and well.
You will be required to work 12-hour shifts. The shift pattern for this role is a rolling shift pattern of 3-day shifts (7 am-7 pm) followed by 3 rest days and then 3-night shifts (7 pm-7 am).
You will be required to obtain a Security Industry Authority license in Public Surveillance (CCTV) and a Security Industry Authority in either Door Supervisor/Close Protection or Guarding.
A Full UK driving license is required for this role.
The post holder will also be subject to pre-employment screening in accordance with BS7858:2019. They will also be screened in accordance with the Disclosure and Barring Service. The post holder will also require to have security clearance through vetting to Non-Police Personnel vetting level 2. Offers of employment can only be made on the condition of successfully passing the screening process.
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and as such,h appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
