Mortuary Assistant



We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mortuary Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will be an important part of the funeral home, providing dignified care for the deceased and offering support to families during chapel visits.

Key Responsibilities:



Care for the Deceased

: Bringing into care the deceased from private homes, hospitals, hospices and other locations. Preparation of the deceased for viewing, burial or cremation, which will include washing, dressing, hair care, cosmetics and other preparation tasks.

Maintain the Mortuary

: Keep the mortuary clean, safe and well-organised, ensuring equipment and facilities are maintained and all mortuary stock levels managed. Also ordering od mortuary supplies.

Assist with Logistics

: Support colleagues by fuelling vehicles, checking equipment and preparing everything needed for on-call and weekend duties.

Support Families

: Welcome and assist relatives during chapel visits, ensuring their wishes are met with care and sensitivity.

Collaborate with Colleagues

: Work closely with funeral directors, embalmers, hospital staff, doctors and crematorium operators to deliver a seamless, professional service. You will be expected to drive vehicles and deal with coffin deliveries from suppliers.

Required Skills and Qualifications:



Empathy and Compassion

: A genuine ability to support bereaved families with dignity and respect.

Attention to Detail

: Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of care and accuracy.

Literacy and IT Skills

: A good standard of written and spoken English, with excellent computer skills (including email, Word, Excel and funeral software such as eFD).

Physical Stamina

: The role involves manual handling and can be physically demanding.

Communication Skills

: Strong interpersonal skills for working with families and colleagues.

Flexibility

: Willingness to work irregular hours if needed, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.

Driving Licence

: A full, clean driving licence is essential.

Additional Information


This role can be both physically and emotionally demanding due to the sensitive nature of the work. Travel is often required when collecting the deceased or attending funeral services. Full training will be provided.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From 12.50 per hour

Expected hours: No more than 37.5 per week
