MST-CAN Therapist

----------------------

Job description
Full Time / 37 Hours Per Week / Permanent

Would you like to be part of our ever-improving service ensuring children and young people are at the heart of our work?

The Children's Social Care & Early Help Division are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Join us and you'll be involved in our vision to keep families together, assure that children are safe, prevent abuse and neglect and reduce mental health difficulties experienced by children and adults.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an MST Therapist to support our goal of preventing children being taken into care where the primary concern is neglect and/or physical abuse, and to keep these children safely at home. You'll apply your skills and knowledge within this area to increase the family's capacity to develop social networks and to utilise those networks to support parenting to keep children safe, and work to help improve parent and child mental health functioning.

Using the latest technology, you'll have access to your own Windows laptop, a Smartphone and a Dictaphone giving you the opportunity to work in people's homes and in the community. You'll be a part of a small team consisting of three MST Therapists, one MST Case Worker and supported by the MST Clinical Supervisor.

You'll have the opportunity to attend meetings at all levels. This includes but is not limited to weekly MST group supervision and consultation, Child Protection conferences, core groups, strategy discussions, family meetings, network meetings and school meetings.

This is a full time permanent position, working 37 hours per week. Based at Halford House, you'll be able to work across the city to conduct home visits and attend meetings. You'll be required to work out of hours including weekends as well as have on call responsibilities.

What you'll be doing

You'll deliver intensive specialised therapeutic programme of multisystemic therapy (child abuse and neglect adaption) intervention to targeted families for 6- 9 months and ensure the treatment and management of both the children and carers mental health and behavioural problems. You'll deliver interventions according to the nine principals of MST and the associated licence specifications, including drug testing and treatment. You'll consider the application of both theoretical and therapeutic models in the context of the child's and their family's culture, racial and linguistic background, and religious persuasion.

Working closely within the MST team, participating in team supervision and case discussions you'll ensure a working knowledge of colleagues' cases is maintained so that colleagues' absences can be covered without disruption to treatment plans. In collaboration, you'll work with cases in accordance with the Departments child-care and safeguarding policies and the principles of the Children Act.

What you'll need

With experience of working across effective multi agency partnerships to achieve common goals, you'll be able to engage with client and families within their own homes, whilst demonstrating an understanding and empathy towards young people and their family/carers. You'll have a relevant professional qualification as well as experience of the application of psychological theory and the delivery of interventions, such as evidence based parenting interventions, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Family Therapy. With resilience and tact, you'll be able to effectively deal with sensitive matters in volatile settings and diffuse situations whilst remaining calm and in control. Using proficient IT skills and good attention to detail, you'll be able to maintain up to date case records and provide reports for the Department, Court and other agencies as required.

Appointment to this role will be based on a full UK Driving License and Enhanced DBS check.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance. You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.
