Engineer

The role spans across 3 sites: Changing Waste, R100 Energy and Holme Bioenergy. All 3 are Yorkshire based sites. Changing Waste is an industrial processor of waste designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks, R100 has the capacity to process up to 90,000 metric tonnes of organic waste per year, with Holme Bioenergy capacity to process up to 80,000 metric tonnes of organic waste per year.

We own and operate a group of anaerobic digestion facilities across the UK. We also provide biological support, emergency response and feedstock supply to other operators within the industry. Our industry expertise means we not only have the knowledge and experience to deal with all the food waste the UK produces.
Our Changing Waste site is an industrial processor of waste located in the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is designed to handle a wide range of waste feedstocks. Through a variety of different processes that utilise the waste as a raw material to create a blend for anaerobic digestion, which in turn is used to generate electricity and gas that is 100% renewable and exported to the national grid.?
Purpose of the role:
The Engineering Team are responsible for the maintenance and repair of all AD Food Waste machinery, process equipment, buildings and site civils. They are responsible for carrying out a proactive engineering approach to improve machinery efficiency and effectiveness through a planned programme of preventative works to the Food Waste AD sites. They are also charged with monitoring the performance of the AD process by interpreting data from SCADA, e.g., Methane/H2S content, tank foaming, etc., and taking the necessary action.
The individual working within the team of engineers need to ensure:
Adherence to safe working practices
Timely response to breakdowns
High quality of maintenance and repair
A proactive approach to improving machinery efficiency and effectiveness
Out of hours engineering support (inclusive of weekends) is detailed in the call-out rota
Each AD site will be manned with three Engineers - with the Head of Engineering responsible for planning and assigning duties to all site based engineers and by deploying Group Field Engineers to sites to assist in a planned programme of works. Both Site Engineers and Group Field Engineers will be expected to cover for out of hours engineering support in a site specific call out rota. This will be typically 1 in 4.
Key areas of role responsibility:
Install, maintain, and enhance engineering systems and components in accordance with project and site requirements and specifications.
Inspect, test, and diagnose issues with site systems and components. Log any defects or follow up work required on company engineering software system.
Perform all work in a manner that meets mechanical / electrical specifications, blueprints and standards.
Ensure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts, required for tasks assigned.
Perform preventative maintenance as required on mechanical / electrical systems and components in accordance with planned works schedule and keep accurate records of this on engineering software system
Completing Planned Maintenance tasks and recording of corrective actions on the engineering software system
Reaction to breakdowns ensuring quickest possible response and rectification with follow up of records being updated on engineering software system; timely and with accuracy.
Assisting the Head of Engineering with scheduling and organisation of maintenance and improvement works
Liaising with suppliers to source critical parts, and ordering in line with company authorisations on spend
Ensure stock levels are maintained to a reasonable economic level; that common failure parts are available by identifying spares required with upcoming issues being identified to the Head of Engineering
Supervise contractors on Food Waste AD sites, ensuring safe systems of work are followed and responsibility of PTW are managed in accordance with company policy
Completion of project work assigned by Head of Engineering/Project Manager

:
Report and support in accidents, incidents and near miss investigations by providing statements and evidence where required
Ensure accidents, incidents and near miss reporting procedures are understood and implemented
Follow and adhere to risk assessment controls and PPE requirements
Adhere to H&S criteria contained within the company SOP's, Risk Assessments, Policies and Procedures, in accordance with the appropriate H&S legislative elements for the role
Set a personal example with regard to Health & Safety matters, promoting the safety culture through observations, site standards and workplace safety
Essential candidate criteria:
Relevant Level 3 engineering qualification held, and minimum of 12 months 'time served' experience in a similar engineering role
Flexibility to perform duties outside of normal working hours including on-call rota
Ability to read and interpret all Engineering Drawings; Development and Implementation of 'Safe Systems of Work; Ability to identify and highlight potential obstacles, achieve objectives and propose solutions where appropriate
Experienced in using Maintenance Management System; Directing and supervising of Contractors
Working at height; Computer Literate; Ability to multi-task; Motivated Self - Starter with good communication skills
Self-motivated; Courteous and polite to customers and other members of staff; Discretion and ability to handle confidential information. Reliability, discretion, diplomatic manner and impartiality of judgement
Driving licence or ability to travel between sites is essential
Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with an on call element covering out of hours including weekends. Typical hours of work are 6am till 2pm; 8am till 4pm; 10am till 6pm.
Salary is starting at 45,000 per annum, increasing to 47,500 after a successful probationary period.
