Purpose of the Role
To ensure the smooth running of production by carrying out proactive, reactive, and planned maintenance. The Shift Engineer is responsible for attending breakdowns, delivering effective fault-finding, and supporting production through engineering expertise. The role is key to maintaining safety, plant efficiency, and minimising downtime.
Key Responsibilities
Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and carry out effective fault-finding and repairs
Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled
Maintain and improve plant reliability through proactive engineering support
Work closely with production teams to deliver operational continuity
Support the Engineering Manager in delivering maintenance KPIs and site projects
Ensure engineering tasks are completed in line with H&S, GMP, and site standards
Accurately complete maintenance records, shift handovers, and CMMS updates
Contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
Support training of operators in basic maintenance and autonomous maintenance activities
Health & Safety Responsibilities
Adhere to all site safety procedures and promote safe working practices
Ensure compliance with permit to work systems, isolation procedures, and risk assessments
Report and escalate hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly
Participate in safety reviews and toolbox talks
Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work area at all times

Entry Criteria
Recognised engineering qualification (Mechanical/Electrical)
Experience in FMCG, food production, or similar manufacturing environment
Multi-skilled with fault-finding experience on production equipment
Positive attitude with a strong team focus
Comfortable working a 12-hour, 4-on-4-off shift pattern
Willingness to support out-of-hours cover if required
