Job Description

We are looking for a Multi Skilled Operative to join our team at Westward Care.


The Multi-Skilled Operative is responsible for carrying out minor building works and maintenance work and enhancing and improving the environments the services including dementia friendly settings in all Westward Care Ltd services in Leeds. This role operates in a multi-skilled environment, delivering high standards of customer care and satisfaction. The operative ensures that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard, often in a single visit.

About The Role



Key Accountabilities:



Execute all types of minor works, maintenance, and refurbishment tasks in a multi-skilled capacity. Complete minor building works and maintenance across various trade disciplines where competent. Attend and complete minor works appointments punctually and within target times, aiming for first-time resolution. Ensure the safe use and condition of company tools, equipment, and fleet vehicles. Diagnose necessary remedial work, organise appointments, and arrange required materials as needed. Minimise disruption to clients in the Westward Care services, maintaining cleanliness and tidiness during and after tasks. Remove or arrange for the removal of waste and debris daily and upon completion of works. Participate in any out-of-hours emergency repairs as required. Ensure all work is completed to high standards and in line with client specifications and requirements. Any other reasonable management request.

The role involves diagnosing and resolving a variety of minor works and maintenance issues across multiple trades. This requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions. More complex issues that involve extensive works or specialised knowledge are escalated to supervisors.

Qualifications or Required Experience:



Level 2 Building Maintenance Multi-Trade Repair and Refurbishment Operations or equivalent. Valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card. NVQ level 2 / City and Guilds qualifications in key trades (Plumbing, Carpentry, Plastering, Joinery etc) Basic knowledge of Health & Safety regulations in a workplace Current valid driving license. Appropriate level of experience within minor works and maintenance. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation. Good understanding and appreciation of effective customer care. Ability to utilise Information Technology and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Good standard of record-keeping and administration. Have an understanding or willing to learn about Dementia friendly environments and adaptations that may be required. Have experience working in a care home environment.

Required Criteria



+ Joinery: Full kitchen installs, pipe boxing, skirting boards, architraves, PVC repairs. Design and construction of aesthetic dementia friendly focal points + Plumbing: Bathroom/wet room installs, leak tracing and rectification
+ Plastering: Full wall/ceiling skimming, patching small areas
+ Tiling: Full bathrooms and kitchens
+ Decoration: Full prep and painting tasks
+ Flooring: Prep and flat lay
+ Externals: Fencing, gate installs, small flagging areas, brick/flag repairs
