Role Overview:


The Transport Manager is responsible for the efficient planning, coordination, and delivery of transport operations in line with GHA and BIFA regulations. The role ensures the fleet operates at maximum productivity by reducing vehicle idle time, sourcing new work, and maintaining full compliance with transport legislation and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

:

Fleet Utilisation & Productivity



Plan and allocate daily work to ensure all vehicles are fully utilised with minimal standing time. Monitor fleet activity and proactively identify gaps in scheduling to reduce idle hours. Source, secure, and allocate additional loads via internal customers, freight networks, and platforms such as Courier Exchange or haulage partnerships. Optimise vehicle routing to improve efficiency, reduce fuel costs, and maximise profitability. Maintain real-time oversight of vehicle movements using tracking and telematics systems.

Operations & Compliance



Ensure full compliance with GHA and BIFA standards, including accurate documentation, safe handling of goods, and adherence to international and domestic transport rules. Manage driver hours, tachograph compliance, vehicle checks, and maintenance schedules to meet DVSA requirements. Liaise with customs, freight forwarders, and external agencies where needed for import/export movements. Maintain accurate records of journeys, loads, service reports, and KPIs.

Customer & Partner Relations



Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and brokers to secure ongoing work. Provide excellent communication and updates to customers regarding delivery schedules, delays, and load status. Negotiate rates and service agreements to maximise revenue while protecting service quality.

Leadership & Driver Coordination



Supervise and support drivers, ensuring they follow company policies, safety practices, and legal requirements. Conduct driver briefings, performance monitoring, and training on compliance and safety standards. Manage disciplinary procedures, incident reporting, and investigations where necessary.

Problem Solving & Planning



Respond quickly to operational issues such as mechanical faults, route disruptions, or last-minute job cancellations. Develop contingency plans to keep vehicles moving and maintain customer satisfaction. Analyse performance data to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.

Skills & Experience Required



Strong understanding of GHA and BIFA standards and industry practices. Proven ability to plan and schedule transport operations efficiently. Experience securing and allocating loads to reduce downtime. Knowledge of UK domestic haulage law, working time regulations, and tachograph management. Excellent communication, negotiation, and organisational skills. Experience using transport management software (TMS), telematics, and digital compliance tools.

Pay: 28,090.18-49,985.65 per year
