Job Introduction
We're looking for a sharp, culturally fluent, and video-savvy Multimedia Journalist to help shape the next generation of storytelling across the Daily Mail's 150M-strong social ecosystem and our growing network of digital-first brands.
You will work across multiple verticals - including showbiz, news, money, and health - creating standout animated assets for short-form video, social posts, explainers, and brand launches.
This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives on turning editorial or conceptual briefs into smart, engaging motion design.
Main Responsibilities
Design and animate high-quality 2D motion graphics for short-form video (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) and longer-form explainer content
Work closely with video editors, producers, and writers to enhance storytelling with visual clarity and polish
Build animated templates, lower thirds, kinetic typography, openers, transitions, and end cards for repeatable use across formats and series
Translate scripts and voiceovers into visual storyboards and animated scenes that hold attention
Contribute to the look and feel of new brand identities, designing visual systems that work across video and social
Maintain fast and flexible workflows that balance quality with tight turnaround times
Stay current with animation trends, tools, and best practices across platforms
Person Specification
3+ years of motion design experience, ideally in digital media, social content, or branded storytelling
Advanced proficiency in After Effects and Illustrator; working knowledge of Premiere, Photoshop, and Figma a plus
Strong sense of visual rhythm, timing, and hierarchy -- able to communicate clearly without overcomplicating
Ability to translate editorial ideas and scripts into clean, on-brand animated visuals
Experience working with voiceover, text-on-screen, and branded assets in motion
A sharp eye for typography, layout, and design consistency
Comfortable designing for both still and motion formats, with good instincts for how graphics land on social
Highly organised, with strong file hygiene and templating habits
Proactive and collaborative -- able to work with writers, editors, and creative leads to improve a concept through motion
