to join our dynamic pharmaceutical manufacturing team. In this hands-on role, you will ensure the efficient running and engineering performance of our production and packaging equipment in line with world-class GMP standards. Your expertise will be essential in troubleshooting, maintaining, and continuously improving high-speed production lines and associated systems.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Line Support
Perform routine preventive maintenance as scheduled via CMMS, following SOPs and GMP protocols.
Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns using structured fault diagnosis and delivering high-quality repairs.
Support efficient line start-ups, changeovers, and format adjustments, minimising downtime and ensuring production targets are met.
Mechanical and Electrical Interventions
Conduct mechanical repairs such as, belt/bearing replacements, gear alignment, and pneumatic fixes.
Undertake electrical tasks including, wiring checks, motor testing, and sensor/component replacement.
Provide initial diagnosis of automation issues following the technical drawings and escalating complex faults to Team Leaders.
GMP Compliance and Documentation
Work in compliance with GMP, particularly when operating in cleanroom and controlled environments.
Accurately record all engineering activities using CMMS (ea. breakdowns, work orders, spares used), breakdown logs and shift handover records.
Ensure timely, accurate, and legible documentation to support audit readiness and traceability.
Health, Safety & LOTO
Adhere to Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures during all equipment isolation activities.
Conduct appropriate risk assessments prior to interventions and apply correct PPE and safety measures.
Immediately report hazards or unsafe behaviours to Team Leaders or EHS representatives.
Communication and Team Collaboration
Communicate clearly during shift handovers to ensure fault history, unresolved tasks, and risk items are understood by incoming teams.
Collaborate with:
Automation Engineers on controls/electrical faults
Facilities Engineers where site systems (air, water, HVAC) are involved
Technical Engineers for investigations, CAPAs, or recurring issues
Participate in Tier meetings (Production/QA/EHS), safety briefings.
Support project teams in FAT's (Available to travel), installation and commissioning phases for line improvements or new equipment's.
Continuous Improvement & Reliability
Identify and report repeated faults, parts failures, or process inefficiencies to support root cause analysis and reliability improvements.
Contribute to site-wide OEE, TPM and Lean initiatives by offering engineering insights and practical feedback.
Suggest improvements to SOPs, maintenance schedules or spares inventory based on operational experience.
The Person:
Time-served Engineer with a recognised engineering apprenticeship; HNC qualification preferred.
Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic and repair skills.
Experience with PLC interrogation and SCADA systems for troubleshooting and process analysis.
Proficiency in AutoCAD for reviewing and editing technical drawings.
Knowledge of LOTO, RAMS, and general health & safety standards.
Previous experience in a regulated production environment (Automotive, pharmaceutical or food are preferred).
Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, and Continuous Improvement practices.
CompEx certification or experience with ATEX/hazardous area equipment.
A collaborative team player with strong communication skills and a can-do attitude.
