Department Overview

The Engineering Department is responsible for all site services within the Amcor Bristol site. The team\'s focus is the 24/7 hour continued support of the production areas and production operations staff to ensure Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery of our employees & products

The Department is responsible for Deliver effective PPM, Repairs on all production equipment

As part of a small team, operating in a fast paced and highly regulated environment, you will need to be self-motivated and have the ability and confidence to work autonomously

About the role

The primary purpose of the role is to undertake both planned and reactive maintenance and to ensure the availability of production equipment 24/7, whilst always striving for opportunities to deliver enhanced plant improvements through innovative ideas and modifications.

  • Perform scheduled Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) on production equipment or site services
  • Diagnose causes of, and repair equipment breakdowns. Focusing on a \xe2\x80\x9cFirst Time Fix\xe2\x80\x9d methodology.
  • Record equipment history on engineering computer system and complete quality system documentation as required.
  • Provide detailed handovers to engineering colleagues
  • Ensure procedures, health and safety requirements are always followed to maintain compliance
  • To assist in managing contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety policies and site procedures
  • Deliver greater plant reliability through effective engineering practices, always aiming for sustainable greater uptime and reliability of plant and equipment through all/any engineering activities carried out.
  • Carry out process improvements using own initiative, or as part of a team, to support efforts to improve equipment reliability
  • Keep abreast of the current regulatory requirements within your own area if expertise

3.1 Safety and Health Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance to current Health and Safety Legislation whilst providing a professional and proactive approach to health and safety.
  • Ensure good working knowledge of Amcor safety procedures and adhere to the Company Safety Code while also driving forward any health and safety initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and build a positive and successful safety culture.
  • Ensure that the correct equipment is available and always used as required.
  • Improve Company Health and Safety guidelines and challenge them where necessary.
  • Deal with all health and safety issues professionally and efficiently.
  • Ensure all new and existing plant is risk assessed and safe to use.
  • Support a culture that enhances behavioral awareness to reduce accidents and near misses.
3.2 Quality Assurance and Measures of Effectiveness
  • Ensure the Company hygiene code is adhered to.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of company procedures and ensure these are complied with.
  • Continually improve methods to increase the current standards of quality and act as a source of best practice for engineering processes.
  • Ensure any deviation from quality is dealt with effectively and efficiently.
  • Ensure hygiene and safety standards are maintained and improved.
  • Ensure clean as you go is strictly followed.
  • Ensure department Housekeeping and Hygiene standards are kept and improved.
  • To work closely with other departments as required, supporting the development of high engineering standards and systems.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Management Team to agree and implement continuous improvement objectives and to advise and support, as required, with all site engineering needs.
  • Manage your role, directing and prioritising your own approach and managing your effectiveness against set and measurable objectives and KPI\'s, demonstrating a proactive approach to improvement.
3.3 Delivery
  • Ensure internal and external customer service levels are efficient and of a high standard.
  • Measure performance and seek to exceed set targets.
  • Ensure a high standard of Planned Maintenance is maintained for all plant and equipment, utilizing the CMMS.
  • Assist in developing engineering standards for Amcor.
  • Liaise with and manage Service Contractors as necessary.
  • Ensure the plant is safe and effective for the job required whilst following routine checks and abiding to site and group guidelines.
  • To carryout site improvement / development projects (where applicable)
  • Ensure the plant is maintained to give the best possible product quality and results.
  • Highlight and develop any issues with the equipment.
  • Implement effective action plans and encourage improvement to overcome any issues.
  • Monitor your area of responsibility and improve standards.
  • Maintain co-operative working with other departments to ensure continuous improvement
  • Prioritise actions to ensure effective performance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or replace equipment
  • Help develop the site Planned Preventative Maintenance program and techniques.
3.4 Cost
  • Ensure wastage is kept to a minimum, whether that is product or other items used in the manufacture of that product.
  • Identify and improve areas that could be made more cost effective.
  • Consistently seek opportunities to improve profitability and put together action plans to support this.
  • Drive energy savings through a site wide initiative
3.5 Environment
  • Manage your area of responsibility with the engineering team, setting standards and targets.
  • To help Oversee control of contractors attending site.
  • Carrying out any reasonable request from the site management team. Working with them to deliver the highest level of efficiency and plant reliability possible.
  • Ensure training is maintained
  • Ensure documentation is developed by sharing knowledge and experience.
  • Maintain good levels of attendance in line with the company standard
Education or Equivalent Requirements:
  • Level 3/4 NVQ diploma or equivalent in Engineering (Elec/Mech)
  • Engineering apprenticeship or equivalent level of education
  • Qualifications in either Electro/Mechanical engineering (Multi skilled)
Desirable
  • HND in Engineering
  • PLC programming or fault finding
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

Essential
  • Proven background within a Production maintenance environment with an Electric/mechanical biased (Multi skilled)
  • IT literate with demonstrable Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel/spreadsheets, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Open to change, with a proactive approach and a passionate attitude to success, being results orientated and focused on continuous improvement.
  • Able to influence/collaborate at differing levels within the organization.
  • A result orientated individual with adherence to high standards and continuous improvement
  • Analytical thinker able to critically assess requirements and select \'best fit\' approach.
  • Always act in a professional and competent manner, adhering to the highest standards.
