Weekly Multi-Sport Youth Coach - Reading and Wokingham

Sessions running weekday afternoons, hourly rate 15 - 30 (dependant on experience)

Sport in Mind is an independent mental health charity founded in Berkshire in 2011, with a simple mission: "To improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity" Sport in Mind is the leading mental health sports charity in England, delivering innovative physical activity projects in partnership with the NHS to promote mental wellbeing, improve physical health, combat social isolation, and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction. Our services are co-designed by people with personal experience of mental health problems and healthcare professionals, and we have supported the recovery of over 31,000 people.

We are looking to appoint multisport coaches to run our weekly sessions for children & young people in Reading and Wokingham.

They have the exciting opportunity to engage and empower people, creating a safe supportive environment for people to have fun and meet others and improve their mental wellbeing through physical activity.

Job Purpose

1. Deliver a high quality and fun sport and activity sessions for children & young people to help improve mental wellbeing

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To facilitate and deliver sport and well-being activities

2. Inspire and motivate individuals to have fun and socialise when playing sport to improve their mental health.

3. Be committed to good practice and ensure familiarity with all Sport in Mind policies and procedures (e.g. health and safety, confidentiality and safeguarding).

4. Ensure the highest level of safeguarding is adhered to and risk assessments are followed.

5. Undertake administrative tasks - participant forms, registers, data collection, online data systems.

6. Promote equality and diversity in all aspects of your work by developing and maintaining relationships, ensuring that colleagues are treated fairly and with respect/dignity.

Special/Other Requirements/Responsibilities of this Post

Level of DBS check required for this post is enhanced with a check of the barring list(s) - will be provided to successful applicants . The post requires a check against the list of people barred from working with children.

Person Specification Qualifications/Education/Training.

Level 2 multi-sport coaching award or equivalent in relevant sport Experience

1. Delivery of structured activities for children and young people

2. Health and safety and safeguarding

3. Motivating and influencing people

Skills, Abilities & Competencies

1. Highly organised

2. Excellent communication

3. Excellent interpersonal skills

4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team

5. Excellent delivery of health and safety and safeguarding procedures

6. A personal and/or working knowledge of mental health and sport and physical activity

Specific Working Requirements

1. Delivery of sessions in community venues, Leisure centres, using indoor and outdoor venues

2. Potentially work unsocial hours (evenings and weekends)

3. Must bring a positive and enthusiastic image to the service you provide.
