Job Details
Multisystemic therapy (MST) is an intensive family and community-based intervention that targets the multiple causes of antisocial behaviour in young people (aged 10-18 years old) who, without intervention, could be at risk of being placed into local authority care or at risk of custody or secure care. MST draws upon empirically supported interventions such as, Structural and Strategic Family Therapy, Behavioural Parent Training, Behaviour Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
The Ultimate aims of MST are to:
Keep families together when the young person is at risk of entering care or custody/secure care through working intensively with carers to empower them with the tools and resources to manage the young person's behaviours.
Increase young people's engagement with and success in education, training and/or employment
Promote positive activities for caregiver and young person.
Reduce young people's risk of
being in conflict with
the Law
Reduce behaviour that leads to long term adverse outcomes including substance use.
We are looking for a
Supervisor
with significant experience of working effectively with young people and their families to develop and sustain change. The Supervisor will provide clinical and professional supervision and support to the team of MST Practitioners individually and as a group, ensuring adherence to the MST principles and the MST analytical process.
You will be able to evidence considerable success in having engaged hard to reach families. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, be able to remain calm with the ability to defuse difficult and sometimes volatile situations.
You will be able to provide specialist advice, consultation and training in pragmatic psychological interventions such as cognitive behaviour therapy, family therapy and behavioural parenting programmes to the MST teams when required and to other agencies
with regard to
young people with serious antisocial/offending behaviour.
The key tasks are:
Undertaking line management ensuring the effective delivery of MST in Fife, including highly specialist assessment, care planning and intervention service for young people with the most significant offending, behavioural and emotional difficulties.
Providing clinical and professional supervision to MST staff individually and as a group, ensuring adherence to MST principles and the MST analytic process. Supporting therapists to integrate skills gained in MST quarterly booster sessions (delivered by external MST Consultant) into daily practice.
Undertaking treatment and specialist consultation and when necessary, carrying a small clinical caseload.
Contributing to the management of the referral procedures for a range of intensive services.
Ensuring effective collection and interpretation of necessary performance and quality assurance measures (as required per licence agreement), undertaking appraisals/reviews of staff members and negotiating agreed CPD plans.
Collaborating with relevant stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships with partners and supporting MST staff to do likewise.
Providing supervision and guidance to teams on an
on call
basis, through the participation of a back-up Supervisor on call rota. In exceptional circumstances this may require a call out to support the duty practitioner when an out of hours call is agreed.
Engaging in any future research related projects as directed by MST Programme Manager.

The Person
Educated to SCQF level 10, which includes a
Degree
or equivalent in Social Work, Applied Psychology, Mental Health Nursing or equivalent
Completion of courses/qualifications in theoretical models and applied therapeutic techniques relevant to an adolescent/serious conduct disorder population
Knowledge and experience of family systems, social ecological and cognitive behavioural therapy theories and their application
Ability to travel within Fife.
Be able to be on call 24/7 on
a
on call rota basis to the MST Practitioners.
Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
