Applications are invited for the post of Music Performance Operations Officer in the Department of Music.
Royal Holloway is one of the UK's leading universities for music, ranked no.1 in the UK for music research (Complete University Guide 2022-26, Times Good University Guide 2022-26). Our vibrant programme of music performance encompasses classical, contemporary, jazz and world styles. We hold over 80 concerts per year on campus, and we support over 15 performing ensembles including staff-led groups such as the Royal Holloway Choir, Symphony Orchestra, New Music Collective, Andean Band, Gamelan and Percussion Group, plus an array of student-run ensembles. Music is an integral part of Royal Holloway's Arts & Culture Framework, providing a high-quality and innovative experience for students, staff, local communities and the wider region. We use campus features such as the Victorian Picture Gallery and our woodland grounds to inspire creative collaborations including new music composition and soundwalks, and we work closely with related disciplines including Drama and Media Arts to deliver music theatre and multimedia performances.
This role will work with the Music Performance Manager to provide operational support for all aspects of music performance at Royal Holloway. This will include technical and operational support for concerts, recitals and workshops, including set-up of venues, instruments and PA systems; front-of-house operations at concerts, including co-ordinating student volunteers; oversight of the use of music practice spaces; and management of our extensive collection of musical instruments. You will work closely with students, staff, visiting performers and external suppliers, following university processes to ensure compliance with relevant regulations (e.g. health and safety) and to deliver an outstanding experience for all service users.
The successful candidate is likely to have experience in concert management and may be looking to further develop a career in facilitating music performance. You will have a good understanding of music ensembles, musical instruments and PA systems, enabling you to deliver the optimal set-up of venues and ensembles, and to monitor the state of our equipment. You will have strong skills in communication, IT and team working. You will be committed to providing an outstanding customer experience for our service users including students, staff, visitors and concert audiences. The ability to work flexible hours is essential, including regular front-of-housework at evening concerts.
