Streethay Wharf Ltd are a narrow boat yard that deals with all aspects of narrow boat repair and refurbishment.



We are currently looking for an engineer/ good all-rounder. Previous Knowledge of marine engines essential, a thorough knowledge and understanding of diesel and petrol engines and gearboxes is essential. A good all-round clear understanding of engineering principles essential.



Any previous Knowledge or experience of narrow boats useful but again not essential, as training can be offered to the right candidate. A good and thorough understanding of 12 volt and 240 volt electrical systems is essential, Must have the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues.



Candidate must be professional and competent, professional qualifications preferred. Must have the ability to self motivate and manage work loads while maintaining high levels of customer care and expectation. Candidate must be able to work in a tidy and organised manor, protecting boat interiors where and as required. Candidate must feel confident talking with customers and explaining any issues clearly enough for the customer to be able to fully understand. Any issues or complication with a job requires reporting to the Yard manager as soon as apparent, so customers can be advised.



Place of work is Streethay Wharf Lichfield, but there is the requirement to cover our other yard at Mercia Marina as and when required, travel expenses covered and also the requirement to attend canal side breakdowns in the immediate area as and when required



Any previous knowledge or experience of Webasto or Eberspacher heaters useful, but not essential as training can be offered.



This is a very good opportunity for an engineer to be able to come here and make his or her mark and generally help with the operation of Streethay Wharf, ideal for a person with good around ability. An appreciation and understanding of the narrow boat world certainly helps. Good rates of pay for a person with the above required attributes.

Conduct root cause analysis to identify issues within engineering systems and develop effective solutions. Design and simulate system models using Simulink and MATLAB to optimise performance and reliability. Develop detailed schematics and technical drawings using CAD software such as SolidWorks and GD&T standards. Programme and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) to automate processes efficiently. Create comprehensive system designs incorporating mechanical knowledge, electrical schematics, and control logic. Utilise LabVIEW for data acquisition, instrument control, and automation tasks. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that meet project specifications. Analyse system performance data to inform continuous improvement initiatives. Prepare technical documentation and reports detailing design processes, testing procedures, and findings.

Requirements



Proven experience with root cause analysis, system design, and troubleshooting in engineering environments. Proficiency in CAD software such as SolidWorks or similar tools for creating detailed schematics and models. Strong knowledge of MATLAB, Simulink, and LabVIEW for simulation and automation tasks. Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) programming and troubleshooting. Understanding of GD&T standards for precise mechanical component design. Mechanical knowledge relevant to system integration and component selection. Ability to interpret technical schematics and system diagrams effectively. Excellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to complex technical challenges. Relevant educational background in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related fields; professional experience is advantageous but not essential.
