About the Naval Architecture & Marine Engineering team:

The Naval Architecture team sits within the Maritime and Land business of QinetiQ. The team delivers hydrodynamic testing and design consultancy services. Hydrodynamic problem solving forms a significant part of the project work within group - identifying a methodology for solving a client\'s hydrodynamic issues, mathematically or through model testing.

What will I be doing?

  • Supporting hydrodynamic test and evaluation within the hydrodynamic facilities (towing tank, manoeuvring basin, cavitation tunnels).
  • Conduct simulation and modelling of ships and submarines in support of design and operation.
  • Work within QinetiQ\'s team of subject matter experts in support of complex project delivery, including propeller design, submarine manoeuvring and surface ship hydrodynamics.
  • Support maritime consultancy tasks to aid in solving our customer\'s problems.
  • Conduct data analysis to understand complex problems.
Academic requirements:

You will need to be working towards a degree with a key focus on any of the disciplines listed below:
  • Ship science
  • Naval architecture
  • Marine engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Offshore engineering
  • Mathematics
  • Aero/Hydrodynamics
Additional desirable requirements:
  • Highly motivated, dynamic with a positive attitude and values of integrity, collaboration and performance.
  • Keen desire to develop and grow their technical skills and understanding.
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis including experience of programming (Matlab, Python etc.).
  • Ability to develop alternative strategies to overcome issues and innovate to improve the overall value to the customer.
  • Good communication skills, both written and presentational. Including the ability to exchange complex information.
  • Good team working, organisation, communication and attention to detail.
