We are part of the Express Engineering Group who employ more than 300 employees across the two companies, Express Engineering (Gateshead) and Express Engineering (Fabrications) (trading as QA Weld Tech).

This role supports all business within the Express Engineering Group. The successful candidate will be required to work between our business in Gateshead and Middlesbrough as business needs require.

The main duties of the NDE Technical Manager role will include:



Leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of NDE procedures, ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASNT, ISO 9712, EN, ASME, API). Being the organisation's subject matter expert on all NDE methods including but not limited to: Ultrasonic Testing (UT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) and provide support to the business and supply chain on Radiography (RT) and Phased Array UT (PAUT). Providing technical leadership and support to internal inspection teams and third-party NDE contractors. Reviewing customer specified NDE procedures and techniques for use in production and testing, ensuring their suitability for specific materials, geometries, and defect detection requirements. Developing and maintaining a training and certification program for NDE personnel in accordance with relevant certification schemes (e.g., ISO 9712, PCN). Overseeing the qualification and certification of NDE technicians; maintain certification records and ensure ongoing compliance. Being the interface with customers, auditors, and regulatory bodies during inspections, audits, and technical reviews. Supporting root cause investigations and corrective actions related to NDE findings or quality issues. Ensuring all NDE work is performed safely and in accordance with company, regulatory, and environmental guidelines. Staying up to date with advances in NDE technologies and techniques and assess their relevance to current and future business needs.

To be successful in this NDE Technical Manager role at Express Engineering, you will:



Have extensive experience in NDE, including time in a supervisory or technical leadership role. Hold certification to Level III in at least two major NDE methods (e.g., UT, RT, MT, PT) under ASNT, ISO 9712, or equivalent. Have strong knowledge of industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM, ISO, API). Be experience working in a regulated environment.
