Manchester is a dynamic, thriving city that is ever changing. Ensuring the city's residents are listened to, well connected to opportunities and can be resilient within their own communities is key to the city's future success. Housing growth, changes to transport infrastructure, health inequalities, access to services at the right time and climate change are all examples of key issues that will impact on the City's neighbourhoods.
The Neighbourhood Teams play a key role in enabling activity at a local level; working alongside Council services, partner organisations and the community to create well managed neighbourhoods. The teams are split into three areas - North, Central and South. They work with a wide range of stakeholders from the private, public, and voluntary sector to ensure a joined-up approach to achieve the city's objectives as set out in the Our Manchester Strategy. We are currently recruiting an area-based opportunity to join the neighbourhood team in the role of Neighbourhood Manager in North. The Neighbourhood Manager plays a key role in working with elected members, partners, businesses, communities, and residents to deliver the priorities as set out in the citywide Our Manchester Strategy at a neighbourhood level, as well as responding to other local needs.
This is delivered by playing a key role in delivering the city's place-based reform programme Bringing Services Together (BST) for People in Places; through working with elected members, communities, and partners to coordinate activity at ward and neighbourhood level, and engaging residents in the Climate Change agenda. As neighbourhoods grow and change, the aim is to create and maintain well-managed, safe, and vibrant neighbourhoods that culturally diverse citizens can be proud of, with access to a high-quality leisure, sports, green spaces, and a vibrant cultural offer.
About the Candidate
We are looking for committed managers who are proud of and passionate about Manchester, embrace the Our Manchester behaviours, and have experience of working with local elected members, communities, and wider partners. You will need excellent communication and influencing skills, be able to interpret data and intelligence, be a creative problem solver with the ability to plan and organise resources, and turn strategic ideas into practical, well organised plans. You will have experience of managing, developing and motivating staff to deliver consistent performance and reach their own potential. You should also have a good understanding of current approaches to community engagement and enabling culturally diverse residents to drive their own ideas into actions by listening to what they are saying.
