Job Description


This an exciting time to join a growing team where you will play a key role in leading our regions fight against organised crime. With your technical research, analysis and investigative skills you will support by collecting, assessing and interpreting a range of information, intelligence and partnership data. You will then develop and test inferences and hypothesis to produce conclusions to inform tactical and strategic decision making of operational managers, in line with the 4P principles.

The North East Regional Organised Crime Unit is one of ten Regional Organised Crime Units (\xe2\x80\x9cROCU\xe2\x80\x9d) in England and Wales who lead the regional response to tackling serious and organised crime whilst supporting local and national delivery. The ROCU network continues to expand and Home Office funding through police officer uplift and increased police staff capacity presents exciting opportunities to further enhance service delivery and positively impact on our partners and the public. The Home Office Serious and Organised Crime Strategy defines ROCU as leading the regional fight against Serious and Organised Crime and NEROCU have a critical role in leading, connecting and co-ordinating delivery across our region in all four P\xe2\x80\x99s of the strategy;Pursue \xe2\x80\x93 prosecuting and disrupting people engaged in serious and organised criminality.Prevent \xe2\x80\x93 preventing people from engaging in serious and organised criminality.Protect \xe2\x80\x93 increasing protection against organised crime.Prepare \xe2\x80\x93 reducing the impact of serious and organised crime where it takes place. NEROCU comprises of specialist teams delivering across intelligence, operations, investigations, cyber, economic, technical and digital capabilities.

What will I be doing?

  • Identify, plan and conduct data collection and integration to meet analysis requirements; tasking researchers to assist in the collection of data. Identify opportunities and implement solutions using data analytical techniques (e.g. programming) to manage and interpret large and complex datasets.
  • Represent NEROCU, as required, give presentations, and attend briefings, seminars, and conferences; liaising with police personnel, partner agencies and external organisations to gather and share information and intelligence and coordinate analytical products.Conduct the analysis of information and intelligence; taking a problem-solving approach to select the appropriate recognised analytical technique, methodology and most effective analytical product, in order to provide a better understanding of any defined problem.
  • Independently develop inferences and test hypotheses concerning the nature and scope of criminal activity and regional serious and organised crime threats, to influence and support operational decision making.
  • Ability to conduct analysis to produce conclusions, identify intelligence gaps and make recommendations for action and problem solutions, to inform tactical and strategic decision making of operational managers, in line with the 4P principles.
  • Identify regional, cross-border and national SOC threats and produce analytical products to inform Regional Tactical and Strategic Tasking and Coordination processes.
What do I need?

Essential:
  • Proven ability to conduct in-depth analysis or research across a wide range of data sources.
  • Awareness of analytical tools and techniques. Good understanding of information management and data integrity issues.
  • Ability to identify, plan and conduct data collection and integration to meet analysis requirements.
  • Experience of assessing information, conducting analysis, making reasoned judgements and presenting these results in a variety of formats.
  • Proven ability to work in partnership with colleagues, other agencies, forces and/or business groups
  • Strong communication skills, both verbally and written, able to promote new ideas and approaches effectively at all levels within the organisation.
  • Competent in the use Microsoft Office and a willingness to learn and work with a range of IT applications, including some specialised systems.
  • Willingness to travel throughout UK \xe2\x80\x93 Full UK Driving licence required.
Desirable:
  • Level 3 City and Guilds in Government Intelligence Analysis or equivalent. Understanding of the use of intelligence, data, information and evidence by law enforcement agencies.
  • Knowledge of legislation governing the activities of Application/interview/CPD law enforcement agencies, e.g. CPIA, IPA, etc. Experience in data extraction and manipulation using appropriate methodologies and analytical techniques to meet customer requirements. Understanding of Serious and Organised Crime threats and enablers (e.g. dark web, cryptocurrency).
