THE ROLE
Net Zero Assistant Manager / Manager
- Edinburgh or Aberdeen
Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Net Zero Assistant Manager or Manager (based on experience) to join our small team and assist our clients in integrating sustainability principles into their operations, strategies, and reporting. This role is ideal for an early-mid career professional, the successful candidate will support projects across a range of industries, helping clients address environmental challenges, enhance responsibility, and meet compliance and sustainability goals.
Purpose of the role/key responsibilities:
Carbon measurement
Gather, validate, and analyse data related to clients' scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions across various industries and sectors
Present carbon inventories to clients ensuring that the inventories are contextualised and clear for clients to understand
Emissions reduction plans
Support clients to develop tailored and detailed carbon emission reduction plans that include near and long-term net zero targets
Ensure on-time project delivery, write technical reports and present project outputs to clients
Client engagement
Collaborate closely with clients to understand their unique business operations and identify emission sources
Identify and communicate carbon and energy related risks and opportunities within our clients' sectors
Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
Regulatory compliance
Monitor evolving regulations, industry standards, and trends related to carbon accounting and sustainability reporting, ensuring our clients' adherence to their regulatory compliance requirements
Client service profile building and cross-sell marketing
Supporting the development of our business development and client acquisition activities. This will be in the external market but will principally address our significant internal cross-sell opportunity
Represent the client services team and lead internal engagement with colleagues in all other business units across our offices in the UK and Ireland
Other ESG and sustainability responsibilities
Whilst the focus of this role is carbon accounting, other services delivered by the team include includes materiality assessments, sustainability strategies and reporting. Experience in these areas is not essential, but will be a plus
Experience and skill set required for the role:
Passion for environmental sustainability and a commitment to driving positive change through responsible business practices
Degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Sustainability or a numerical field such as Accounting and Finance. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., IEMA) will be a plus
Strong track record creating carbon inventories across scope 1,2 and 3 in alignment with GHG Protocol
Experience using digital carbon accounting tools or software and utilising emission factor databases
Detailed knowledge of reporting regulations, standards, guidance, and frameworks, such as: CSRD, ISSB, TCFD, SECR, GRI, SBTi, CDP and TNFD
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and draw actionable insights
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a range of audiences effectively, including the C-Suite level
Proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously and delivering high-quality results within tight deadlines
Solutions mindset and interconnected outlook, with a highly collaborative working style and pro-active approach
The ability to clearly articulate the commercial benefits of robust net-zero and sustainability strategies
Track record of business development and experience writing proposals
Detailed understanding of double materiality assessments and broad sustainability strategies would be a plus
