About the role

Staffordshire University has embarked on an ambitious and unique transformation in the Higher Education sector where we strive to become the UK\xe2\x80\x99s leading Digital University. To help deliver this, we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a talented Network Engineer, a technical role supporting the design and delivery of wired and wireless network services across the University, to join our Network & Infrastructure Team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Configuring, installing Cisco network and telephony equipment, using industry standards and best practices.
  • Port patching, audits and updating of central records.
  • Using DNA Centre platform to monitor all devices and services to ensure that they are working correctly.
  • Providing second line support for Incidents, Service Requests and Problems that arrive from our service desk.
  • Supporting projects and providing network support within Digital Services, and wider university transformation projects.
  • Producing monthly network statistics reports.
  • Providing advice and support across teams, escalating in a timely manner as required.
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of wired and wireless performance issues, connectivity to the university\xe2\x80\x99s secure network, Cloud, and Internet services.
  • Supporting IP telephony services.
Supporting the Digital Transformation Strategy and the university\xe2\x80\x99s 2030 Strategic Plan, pipeline ventures that the Network Engineer will support include a new student accommodation village, digital flagship building, and enhancements to network security in line with our cyber security roadmap. We are also working towards a software defined networking infrastructure, intelligent buildings, and automation and programmability to deliver innovative solutions that reduce day to day administration tasks; some knowledge in these areas being relevant to the Network Engineer role.

This is a great opportunity for an entry level Network Engineer with knowledge of and experience in Cisco technologies.
