Working Hours: Monday - Friday 40 hours per week + On call rota approximately 1 in 7 weeks, and Out of Hours 1-2 times a week

We are seeking a highly experienced Network Engineer to join our Group Network function. This role is critical to the stability and performance of our extensive, 200-site network. We are looking for a technical expert who thrives on complex challenges and excels in a fast-paced support environment.



The ideal candidate will be defined by their exceptional problem-solving abilities and a structured approach to incident management. You will have a proven support capability, acting as an escalation point for all network-related issues. Your primary goal will be to ensure maximum uptime, security, and performance across our entire technology landscape, from the datacentre core to the wireless edge.



Role Accountabilities:


Incident & Problem Management: Take ownership of high-priority network incidents, providing rapid troubleshooting and resolution to minimise business impact. Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes. Technical Support: Act as a key escalation point for the IT service desk and other support teams, providing expert-level support for complex connectivity, performance, and security issues. Datacentre Networking: Support and manage our datacentre network, including spine & leaf switch fabrics and high-availability configurations. Security & Load Balancing: Administer and maintain our Palo Alto and FortiGate firewalls (including policy, VPNs, and threat prevention). Manage and configure F5 LTM load balancers. Network Operations: Manage, maintain, and support our 200-site network, ensuring the health of all LAN, WIFI, and SDWAN services. Multi-Vendor Management: Configure, monitor, and optimise our Ubiquiti Unifi and Cisco Meraki network estates. Routing & Virtualisation: Manage and troubleshoot complex routing, with a strong focus on BGP. Collaborate with the systems team to support and configure hypervisor networking (VMware/Nutanix). Documentation: Create and maintain high-quality network diagrams, standards, and operational documentation.

Knowledge and Experience:


Several years of experience in a similar Network Engineer role, managing a large-scale, multi-site enterprise network. Exceptional Problem-Solver: Demonstrable ability to diagnose and resolve complex, intermittent network issues under pressure. Incident Management Expert: Proven experience in a high-availability environment, managing the full lifecycle of incidents from detection to resolution and review. WAN/LAN Expertise: In-depth, hands-on experience with Ubiquiti (UniFi) and Cisco Meraki (MX, MS, MR) product suites. Datacentre Technologies: Strong practical knowledge of modern datacentre networking, including spine & leaf architectures and hypervisor networking (vSphere NSX, or Nutanix AHV). Advanced Routing: Expert-level understanding and practical experience with BGP. Network Security: Hands-on experience managing and configuring Palo Alto and FortiGate firewalls. Application Delivery: Experience with F5 LTM load balancers. Experience with network monitoring and analytics tools. Knowledge of cloud networking (Azure or AWS). Scripting or automation skills (e.g., Python, Ansible). Personal Attributes: A genuine drive and passion for technology, a proactive and self-motivated attitude, and excellent communication skills. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIA/JNCIS, PCNSA/PCNSE, Fortinet NSE, F5-CA).
