JOB PURPOSE

:

Responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of broadband network infrastructure in external environments, including both overhead and underground cabling. The role ensures that fibre cables are safely deployed, efficiently, and to technical standards, supporting the reliable delivery of broadband services to residential and commercial customers. Working as part of a field team, the network cabler contributes to the successful rollout and upkeep of high speed communication networks while adhering to health, safety and industry regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



Installation of fibre and copper cable whilst observing cable tolerance.

Interpreting and understanding job packs and network drawings to accurately install telecommunications cable and equipment whilst also to specification.

Pull and rod fibre cables through ducts and prepare routes for installation teams.

Climb poles and work at height using approved safety equipment to install and maintain overhead cables.

Work collaboratively with civils teams, network engineers, and installations teams to ensure efficient network delivery.

Maintain tools, equipment and PPE in a safe working condition.

Maintain accurate records of work completed including system updates, as-builds, and test results.

Ensure all cabling activities comply with health and safety standards, NRSWA regulation and company procedures.

Interpret network designs and technical drawings to deliver accurate installations.

Ensure all documentation is complete and submitted within a timely manner. Task reports, Pre & Post installation check sheet, Point Of Work Risk Assessment (POWRA).

Ensuring detailed handovers at the start/end of shifts to manager/supervisor.

SKILLS REQUIRED :



Knowledge & Experience



Experience in cabling and TRR.

Knowledge of NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act) regulations.

Ability to read site plans and technical drawings.

CSCS card or equivalent certification & PIA accreditations.

Machine operation (winches, jetting machine, mech lifters).

Site Preparation



Ensure you are equipped with correct stores, materials, tools and plant.

Conduct site surveys and risk assessments.

Set up traffic management systems (cones, barriers, signage).

Prep and survey site according to proposed plans.

TRR & Cabling



Test, rod and rope existing telecoms infrastructure.

Identify blockages and report.

Cabling overhead adhering to industry standard.

Cabling underground - providing cabling (new and existing duct), ploughing and direct in-ground.

Conduct installations and repair as per PIA, and/or ISIS doc spec.

Compliance & Reporting



Follow NRSWA and health & safety regulations.

Complete daily work logs and site reports.

Take photos for progress documentation.

Report issues or delays to supervisors.

Coordination



Liaise with fibre engineers and supervisors.

Assist with emergency repairs or fault investigations.

Communicate with local authorities or residents if needed.

Qualifications:



PIA accreditation, NRSWA, confined spaces.

Minimum 2 years' experience.
