The University of Bristol wishes to recruit a highly skilled & qualified graduate/post-graduate to lead and deliver a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with Jisc. Jisc are a not-for-profit UK digital, data and technology organization, the UK's National Research and Education Network provider (owner of the Janet network) and Designated Data Body for Higher Education. Jisc is a membership organisation focused on tertiary education, research and innovation.
The KTP project will develop an advanced methodology and tool for assessing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from large-scale ICT networks to achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2040.
As a KTP Associate based at Jisc (Bristol) you will work closely with senior leaders in both academia and industry to embed new knowledge, build your skillset to drive sustainability transformation in the ICT sector. You will be able to apply your degree in real world applications with the role, gaining deep expertise at the intersection of digital infrastructure and industry whilst retaining links to academia.
This 28-month KTP includes a 4,667 training budget with 10% of your time dedicated to your personal development. You will have access to a pension scheme with generous employer contributions. What will you be doing?

Developing and applying innovative environmental assessment methodologies
Gathering and analysing large datasets from network monitoring systems, and translating them into reliable emissions metrics
Designing, building, and testing prototype software tools that integrate technical, environmental, and operational data
Embedding the methodology and tools into Jisc's processes
Publishing high-quality outputs and contributing to wider sector engagement
You will be the project lead, managing your own workload and ensuring outputs, including leading on meetings and workshops
Direct problem-solving activities and your own learning
You'll have creative freedom to suggest changes and develop the project plan.
You should apply if

First degree in Computer Science with a focus on sustainability and an MSc (or PhD) in a related research topic
Background in network engineering or related environmental sciences
Experience working with statistical data and systems thinking
Quantitative skills, including statistical analysis, data handling (large datasets, network telemetry)
Knowledge of or willingness to learn Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), particularly ICT-sector and change-oriented methods
Excellent communication, project management and problem-solving skills.
