Purpose of Role

As a New Model Launch Team Leader within the New Model Launch team, part of New Product Manufacturing, your focus will be to carry out the analysis of problems raised and support the relevant function group in the new product development phase including support of and to the Manufacturing Engineering group.

In addition, you will be involved in several key areas including but not limited to, design reviews, pre-production build, vehicle dynamic shakedowns, and the McLaren faults management process.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Responsible for analysis via the application of available quality tools to provide a clear definition of problems raised, and to support the relevant function group to containment and resolution within the new product development phase
  • Responsible for all prototype build phases completion, including production assessment, training, and support (measured via 4M methodology)
  • Responsible for BDR approvals at Launch level within SAP (high level of technical knowledge and responsibility required)
  • Attend design reviews and virtual builds where relevant and highlight areas of concern / consideration
  • Dynamic shakedown RCA support where required
  • Support development of component quality standards based on Lessons Learnt (LeLe) and materials knowledge
  • Support Cube activities on future models.
Secondary Accountabilities
  • 5S Maintained in all working areas.
  • Confirm QN\'s are raised and in the system, to technical and safety compliance standards
  • Confirm no Health and Safety issues.
  • Cross functional working with other business areas, including controls support, ME, QE, BIW, CMM, BA, GA, Function Group support (Body, Interior, Electrical and Powertrain), dimensional activities, SQD activities
  • Initial indirect manpower requirements understood
  • Initial understanding of project, detailing specification book, vehicle architecture and non-carry over items/systems
  • Support HPC development for all process areas + line balance
  • Supporting launch readiness\xe2\x80\x8b
  • 4M validation and training plan agreed
  • Support development of high-level assembly strategy
  • Confirm vehicle assembly processes are available for VP build phase\xe2\x80\x8b
  • Confirm all required tooling is in place
  • Confirm all build concerns validated and covered for next build phase
  • Confirm vehicle assembly processes are validated during VP build phase and all required changes are updated and documented in real time.
  • POC support
  • Development/Mule build support (Foundational work, aligning to simultaneous/Concurrent Engineering strategy)
  • Support NM Man-Eng when required with Process creation.
  • Support NM Man-Eng when required with ER & MR sign offs.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Route Cause Analysis (RCA) of concern using the McLaren Practical Problem Solving (PPS) process or equivalent e.g., Six Sigma, 8D, etc.
  • A degree in mechanical / automotive engineering or similar (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Comprehensive knowledge of automotive manufacturing or similar industry
  • CATIA and GD&T experience preferential
  • Working knowledge of FMEA and Design for Manufacture (DFM)
  • New product development or low volume experience in the Automotive Industry preferred
  • Data logging capability using automotive tools where required would also be a benefit
  • Previous experience of driving high performance vehicles would also be a benefit

  • You may be required to travel to off-site development facilities globally, therefore a flexible approach to travel is required
  • Proven experience of working in a dedicated team environment as well as the ability to work as an individual
  • Self-starter capable of using initiative
  • Methodical approach to work with strong analytical skills
