Job Description


We are supporting a Port Talbot based nutritional supplement producer in hiring a New Product Development Scientist. This is an entry level role, while industry experience is desirable it is open to graduates.

You will play a pivotal role in our product development team, preparing samples, validating testing methods, managing the Probiotic Formulation Laboratory, and maintaining high-quality record keeping. This role provides an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to undertake a breadth of tasks and contribute to broader departmental responsibilities, long-term development projects, and administrative duties as the position matures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing samples to support new product development initiatives.
  • Keeping precise and accurate records to trace prepared samples.
  • Assisting in the development and validation of new testing methods and work protocols.
  • Generating detailed reports on completed work.
  • Adhering to health and safety standards and protocols consistently.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization within the Formulation Laboratory.
  • Managing supplies and materials used within the Formulation Laboratory.
  • Supporting and covering for the VMS Formulation Laboratory as needed.
  • Writing and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to maintain efficiency and accuracy in laboratory procedures.
  • Providing cover for QC Chemistry Laboratory tasks including FTIR, ELISAs, titrations, and physical testing. Full training will be provided.
  • As the role matures, taking on more administrative tasks and broader responsibilities within the department.
  • Participating in and eventually leading long-term development projects, contributing to the continuous growth and innovation of our product portfolio.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Experience with micropipettes is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations is advantageous.
Educational Qualifications:

Bachelor\'s degree in a scientific discipline.

Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Typically, from 08:00 to 16:00. Some flexibility on hours may be permitted.
