Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Locum Consultant Neurologist to join the Neurology service within the [Health and Social Care Trust name] in Northern Ireland. The post holder will provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient neurological care, support ongoing service development, and contribute to teaching, training, and clinical governance within the department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
Provide comprehensive neurological assessment, diagnosis, and management for inpatients and outpatients.
Participate in regular general neurology clinics and specialist clinics (e.g., headache, epilepsy, MS, movement disorders), depending on experience and service needs.
Deliver ward consultations and inpatient reviews, including liaison with other specialties.
Participate in the acute neurology on-call rota (if applicable).
Support and advise junior medical staff, nursing teams, and allied health professionals.
Ensure appropriate and timely documentation, coding, and communication with patients and referring clinicians.
Service Development and Governance
Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of Neurology services within the Trust.
Participate in departmental meetings, morbidity and mortality reviews, and clinical audit programmes.
Ensure adherence to local and national guidelines, policies, and best practice standards.
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and clinical governance activities.
Teaching and Training
Provide teaching and supervision for medical students, foundation doctors, and specialty trainees.
Contribute to departmental education programmes and multidisciplinary training sessions.
Support continuous professional development for all team members.
Research (optional depending on Trust)
Engage in or support ongoing clinical research and service evaluation projects.
Essential Criteria
Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and a licence to practise.
Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (Neurology) or eligible within 6 months of interview.
Extensive experience in general neurology, including both inpatient and outpatient management.
Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
Commitment to teamwork, teaching, and clinical governance.
Desirable Criteria
Subspecialty expertise (e.g., epilepsy, MS, stroke, neurophysiology).
Experience working within the NHS or similar health system.
Evidence of participation in research, audit, or service improvement.
