We have an opening for a Newborn Hearing Screener/ Admin Assistant for a fixed period of 12 months. The post is for 12 hrs per week (covered over 2 weekdays) and we can be flexible with start and finish time.
The job will predominantly be screening Newborn babies hearing within their first few weeks of life, ensuring they get the correct onward referral should they need it. At times when screening is quiet there will administration duties to undertake both in the Newborn Screening team and Audiology.
The NHSP Screeners main duties involve direct handling of newborn babies whilst screening their hearing shortly after birth, having contact with parents face to face and by telephone, arranging appointments and relaying screening results. Screening takes place in patients' homes, clinics and SCBU at Torbay Hospital. There will be close contact with many teams including Health visitors and Midwives.
When providing Admin Assistant cover you will be supported the Audiology Coordinators, other Admin Assistants and the Senior Assistant Audiologists. The main duties will include typing letters in infoflex and sending out to the relevant parties, dealing with telephone calls
The NHSP Department has 5 members of staff providing hearing screening services to around 2,800 babies per year. We also provide training and support to Health Visitors who also perform hearing screening as part of their role. The Department prides itself on providing a family friendly service which meets its national targets for screening well.
The Audiology Department has around 30 members of staff working across a range of grades, roles and specialisms. We are based at Torbay Hospital and run Audiology clinics across 8 localities in the South Devon area. We also offer domiciliary visits for those patients who cannot attend the hospital. It is a busy, friendly and supportive department and we pride ourselves in offering a quality service to our patients. We were awarded the UKAS IQIPS accreditation in 2014 and have successfully maintained this ever since.
