Variable 7 hour shifts between 06:00 and 00:00 (includes 30-minute unpaid break)

A range of shift patterns are available

5 consecutive days per week including one weekend shift

Total working hours are 35 hours per week.

22,500 - 24,500 per annum.

Press Data, one of the UK's leading providers of media intelligence, are currently looking for News Researchers to join our Content and Editorial team based in central Edinburgh.

Our Content and Editorial & Real Time News teams are responsible for monitoring press, broadcast and online content for an extensive list of clients. News Researchers play a critical role in providing our media monitoring service with responsibility for viewing, assessing, and delivering news items to meet our clients' complex requirements.

The team provide written summaries of all news content, including print and online articles, broadcast programmes and verbatim transcripts of broadcast items for a range of clients. It is essential that all summaries and transcripts are accurate and delivered to meet tight deadlines.

In addition, team members are required to handle some content delivery to clients, ensuring the highest standards of quality control.

There are a range of shifts available with flexibility dependent upon role. After six months, Press Data offers the option for News researchers to work a hybrid in-office and working from home rota, with a minimum of 3 days per week in office. During the initial probationary period, all work is office based.

Press Data is looking for an ambitious individual, who is highly organised and motivated, with a keen interest in news media and current affairs.

The post of News Researcher within the Content & Editorial Team (Dayshift) will see the candidate undertaking a range of responsibilities within the department, producing accurate work to a series of tight deadlines and the aptitude to interpret a large and diverse amount of information. A significant part of the successful applicant's duties will involve working quickly and accurately with bespoke media monitoring software. Keyboard skills and some knowledge of IT processes are essential

The person we are looking for must:

Have excellent, proven communication skills, able to deal with people at different levels both internally and externally;

Have knowledge of IT Applications, including MS Word, and MS PowerPoint;

Have experience of working within a busy production office or environment;

Understand the need for complete confidentiality in some aspects of the role;

Overall, we are looking for a highly organised, confident communicator, with a strong desire to work in media intelligence, who would relish the challenge of ensuring that their contribution adds to the success of the company.

Monitoring of press, online and broadcast sources accurately to agreed time targets

Accurate selection of items according to individual client requirements

Handling client delivery and quality control responsibilities, delivering articles to agreed deadlines

Writing and sending accurate, concise summaries to meet tight deadlines

Writing verbatim transcripts of broadcast items as selected by clients

Maintaining and updating knowledge of client requirements, the media environment and working procedures

Keeping work environment clean, tidy and safe

Any other reasonable tasks as assigned by management

Excellent knowledge of UK current affairs

Ability to interpret and evaluate news articles accurately and at speed

Fast, accurate typing and good all-round IT skills

Previous writing/journalistic experience

Good concentration levels within busy working environment

Ability to work and communicate well within a team structure - both verbally and in writing

Ability to manage time to meet tight deadlines

Excellent written and spoken English with in?depth understanding of grammar
