Architect
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for two Architect (HPTO/SO Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract with possibility of extension.
xc2xb7 Pay Rate - 317.94 per/hr
xc2xb7 Location - DfC, HED Heritage Building Designation, Belfast
xc2xb7 Benefits - 37 days holiday per annum
xc2xb7 Hours - 37 hours per week
The main roles and responsibilities of the post are as follows:

  • Assisting with the achievement of targets relating to the Second Survey of buildings of
special architectural or historic interest and the delivery of high-quality expert professional
advice to owners, agents and Councils.
  • As part of the second survey of historic buildings in Northern Ireland, assist in the
surveying of buildings and evaluating records relating to survey work, Preparing
and presenting recommendations for submission to the Historic Buildings Council
regarding listing proposals and de-listings.
  • Providing expert input from the perspective of architectural interest to (a) the ongoing
second survey of historic buildings in Northern Ireland and (b) in respect of the Built heritage
management, maintenance, conservation, setting and reuse of historic buildings,
monuments, sites and features, in line with existing legislation and policy.
  • Maintain the capacity of HED to carry out or to procure architectural surveys, research
and recording of historic buildings, monuments, sites and features, assessing and using new
technology as appropriate.
  • Manage facilities for the photographic recording of historic buildings, monuments, sites and
features plus photographic and drawn archives, and a capacity to design exhibitions and
publications.
  • Develop key management area, or areas, appropriate to the postholder's expertise, eg
- recording, maritime, industrial heritage, record keeping, architectural history, second
survey, churches, etc.
  • Protection of historic buildings, monuments, sites and features through advice to Planning
Service in the development control and Area Plan process and planning application stages,
including preparing evidence for, and attending, Planning Inquiries and Appeals and
providing input to courts on enforcement cases.
  • Provision of professional advice to the public, to public bodies and to senior
management (including drafting of replies to correspondence) in all matters concerned with
the protection, research, interpretation and presentation of historic buildings, monuments,
sites and features.
  • Maintenance and upgrading of archives, such as the Buildings Database and the Historic
Environment Record of Northern Ireland with comprehensive information about various types
of built heritage features and making the information available to staff, NICS, and the public.
The above list is not exhaustive but gives good indication of the main duties of the posts.
The emphasis on particular duties may vary according to business needs.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
1. Be on the live register of the Architects Registration Board (ARB) of the United Kingdom.
AND
2. Have at least 1 year's post registration experience in the practice of architecture.
AND
A full driving licence, valid for Northern Ireland, and access to a form of transport that will enable them to carry out the duties of the post in full.

considered by the Department to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated.
Desired Experience and Qualifications
Knowledge of best conservation practice, for example, work undertaken in accordance
with BS7913 The Principles of the Conservation of Historic Buildings.
