The business based in Malton, North Yorkshire are looking for a Night Production Manager to lead and be an integral part of the site production team.

Hours



4 x 12-hour shifts - 6pm to 6am - Tuesday to Friday

Role Purpose



The Night Production Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of tofu production. The role ensures that every element of manufacturing in their area is delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and consistency.

This position represents the second line of management within the Production function. Area Leads report into this role, which in turn reports directly to the Head of Production. The post holder will act as the stand-in for the Head of Production when and if required.

The purpose of this role is to translate production strategy into daily operational excellence. It requires a leader who can combine people development, process discipline, asset care, and continuous improvement to achieve world-class performance.

Principal Accountabilities



Production Leadership and Delivery



Ensure the production plans are achieved safely, on time, and to specification. Monitor key performance indicators including productivity, efficiency, waste, and downtime. Maintain full control of production flow, materials, and process integrity throughout each shift. Lead daily tier 1 performance meetings, ensuring actions are defined, owned, and completed. Together with the senior leadership, develops and ensures that production standards are applied consistently across all shifts and departments.

People and Team Development



Lead, coach, and support Area Leads and Production Operatives to deliver sustained high performance. Build team capability and engagement through effective communication, coaching, and training. Conduct performance reviews and development planning to ensure continuous professional growth. Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and pride in both product and process.

Asset Care and Autonomous Maintenance



Partner with the Engineering team to deliver a structured Asset Care programme that optimises reliability and uptime. Embed Autonomous Maintenance practices by training operators to perform essential inspection, cleaning, lubrication, and first-line maintenance tasks. Ensure Clean, Inspect, and Lubricate routines are executed and documented with precision. Use performance data to identify recurring issues and collaborate on long-term corrective actions. Plan and coordinate maintenance activities to reduce disruption and protect production output.

Quality, Food Safety, and Compliance



Ensure all operations comply with food safety, hygiene, and quality management systems including HACCP, BRC, GMP, and allergen control. Collaborate closely with the Quality team to maintain standards and address non-conformances. Lead or support root cause investigations to prevent recurrence of quality issues. Promote full team ownership of quality and reinforce the principle that every employee is responsible for product excellence.

Interdepartmental Collaboration



Work in partnership with Planning, Quality, Engineering, Technical, and Supply Chain to maintain a coordinated and efficient operation. Contribute to cross-functional reviews, ensuring that priorities are aligned and decisions are made with full awareness of interdependencies. Support new product introductions and process trials, ensuring smooth integration into routine production. Maintain strong communication links between production and all support functions.

Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence



Apply Lean and TPM methodologies to drive measurable improvements in efficiency, waste, and performance. Facilitate structured problem-solving sessions using recognised tools such as Five Whys and cause-and-effect analysis. Implement visual management, standard work, and 5S principles to create a safe, well-organised workplace. Participate in digitalisation and automation initiatives that enhance productivity and data accuracy. Share best practices across shifts and teams to raise performance levels consistently.

Leadership and Governance



Deputise for the Head of Production when and if required, maintaining performance, communication, and operational continuity. Uphold company values, ensuring fairness, respect, and professionalism at all times. Ensure that all documentation, reports, and records are complete, accurate, and compliant with internal and external standards.

Skills and Experience



Proven leadership experience in food or FMCG manufacturing, ideally within chilled or plant-based production. Demonstrated success in managing multi-shift operations and leading team leaders or supervisors. Strong understanding of production processes, quality management, and food safety systems. Experience implementing and sustaining Lean, 5S, or TPM practices. Solid grasp of equipment care and Autonomous Maintenance principles. Confident in interpreting performance data and driving decisions based on evidence. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across departments. Competent user of production systems, ERP tools, and Microsoft Office applications.

Qualifications:



Degree or equivalent in Food Science, Engineering, or Production Management. Food Safety Level 3 and Health and Safety qualifications are advantageous.
