Previous experience of working in a care setting

We are searching for a qualified and self-motivated Senior Care Assistant to join our expanding care home team. You will perform a variety of patient care duties including administering medication, reporting changes, NEWs scoring, collecting samples - ie Covid Swabs/LFTs, and recording medication dosages and changes.
As a Senior Care Assistant you will consistently deliver a high standard of care to an allocated group of residents, under the direction of The Manager.
Within your role you will also "champion" an aspect of care such as Infection Control, Dignity, Nutrition, End of Life or Medication. Full training can be provided.
You will fully support or assist residents to maintain all activities of daily living, ensuring that their personal care, physical and emotional needs are met.
Under the direction of the Manager, you will be expected to support the care planning process, and participate in the evaluation and review of each resident for whom you are a key worker, making daily records on progress as necessary.
As a Senior Care Assistant and role model, you will work alongside less experienced Care Assistants, providing supervision and support to ensure the highest standards of care are delivered at all times.
In addition to your caring responsibilities, you will assist in the allocation, and co-ordination of resident care to less experienced Care Assistants.
You will have excellent communication skills and ensure all residents, relatives and visitors are addressed in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities - Caring
- The ideal candidate will be extremely detail-oriented and possess in-depth knowledge of patient care procedures. Providing excellent patient care is a vital part of this job, which is why excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed.
- As a key worker to an allocated group of residents, ensure planned care is consistently delivered to a high standard, paying particular attention to personal, physical and emotional care needs.
- Assist the Manager in the planning of care, participating in the evaluation and review for each resident for whom the individual is a key worker.
- Support or assist residents to maintain all activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, mobility, pressure relief, nutritional and fluid intake, and emotional wellbeing. Ensure all associated documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with different nurses / professionals to assist with patient care and medications.
- Follow written or verbal instructions on how to manage medications.
- Record medication dosages and times.
- Observe patients and document changes in their condition.
- Gather samples for analysis.
- Ensure equipment is routinely inspected and cleaned.
- Uphold all health and safety standards.
- Respond to patient emergency call signals, bells, or intercom systems to identify patient needs
- Senior Carer Assistants need to be able to adapt to, and address situations quickly. Plan, develop, implement, and assess approaches to promote health and wellbeing, whilst recognising and reporting situations where there might be a need for protection
- As a Senior Care Assistant, provide support to the Manager by supporting and overseeing the standards of care delivered by less experienced Care Assistants to ensure best practice.
- Ensure that residents are socially presentable in appearance at all times and in accordance to their individual wishes, maintaining their dignity.
- Ensure that residents are offered choice and that their rights are acknowledged and preserved.
- Report any relevant issues or concerns regarding residents care to the Manager, particularly those which affect the health and safety or welfare of the resident. Any such issues should be reported with immediate effect.
- When on duty, ensure all residents have a tidy room and that their clothing and equipment are clean and neatly stored, to meet health and safety and infection and prevention control requirements.
- Respond promptly to call bells or requests by residents at all times.
- Ensure the correct use of equipment at all times, in particular hoists, and stand aids to maintain resident safety.
- When serving food to residents, and assisting with their nutritional intake, ensure Food Hygiene regulations are strictly adhered to at all times.
- Act on any accidents, incidents, near misses or unexplained injuries immediately, escalating to the Registered Nurse, ensuring that the relevant documentation is completed.
- Ensure all resources are used to maximum effect, and support less experienced Care Assistants to understand the importance of effective utilisation.
- Where appropriate, support the Activity Co-ordinator in the delivery of individual and group activities, to enhance resident experience and sense of well-being. Any interactions with residents should be clearly documented within their plan of care.
- Communicate professionally and warmly with residents, relatives, staff and visiting healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities - Personnel
- As a Senior Care Assistant, act as a role model to less experienced Care Assistants, providing support and promoting best practice in all duties undertaken.
- Participate in the recruitment and selection process for new Care Assistants, supporting their orientation and induction process, and alongside the Manager, identify any potential development needs.
- Support the training, development and supervision of less experienced Care Assistants as delegated by the Manager.
- Support the Manager to ensure Care Assistants behave in a professional manner at all times and adopt a high standard in conduct and dress code.
- To be flexible and adaptable to cover rota shifts and provide cover to meet the needs of the business
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload and work under pressure
- To greet visitors and show prospective service users and families the facilities as required
- Work in accordance with Absolute Healthcare policies and procedures setting a good example to less experienced Care Assistants and supporting them to do so.
Key Responsibilities - Development
1. Attend mandatory training sessions as specified.
2. Participate in training, supervision and appraisal for self-development as agreed and required, to ensure up to date knowledge and best practice.
3. Recognise own caring limitations and seek guidance from the Manager as appropriate.
