Job Purpose
The Night Soft Services Manager is responsible for leading, managing, and delivering high-quality soft services operations during night shifts within a large, fast-paced distribution centre environment. This includes cleaning, waste management, hygiene services, and other customer-facing or support services, ensuring safety, compliance, and service excellence at all times. Key Responsibilities
Operations & Service Delivery
Manage all night-shift soft services operations including cleaning, janitorial, waste, washroom services, and ad-hoc support services.
Ensure service delivery meets all agreed SLAs, KPIs, and compliance standards.
Conduct nightly site inspections and audits to ensure cleanliness, hygiene, and presentation standards are maintained.
Respond quickly and effectively to service failures, emergencies, or customer requests.
People Management
Lead, motivate, and manage night shift supervisors and frontline operatives.
Manage shift planning, rotas, attendance, and overtime to maintain full site coverage.
Carry out performance reviews, disciplinary processes, absence management, and return-to-work interviews.
Ensure all staff are fully trained, inducted, competent, and compliant with site requirements.
Health, Safety & Compliance
Ensure full compliance with all Health & Safety legislation, COSHH, RAMS, and company policies.
Promote a strong health and safety culture with zero tolerance for unsafe practices.
Conduct tool-box talks, accident investigations, and safety briefings.
Ensure correct use, storage, and monitoring of chemicals, equipment, and PPE.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the senior on-site soft services representative during nights.
Maintain strong working relationships with client night operations teams, security, engineering, and logistics.
Attend night operational meetings as required and provide detailed handovers to day management.
Stock, Equipment & Budget Control
Manage consumables, cleaning materials, and equipment stocks.
Monitor usage, control waste, and support cost efficiencies.
Ensure machinery is maintained, documented, and fit for purpose.
Reporting & Administration
Complete all required reports including audits, compliance paperwork, staffing records, incidents, and KPIs.
Track performance trends and implement continuous improvement plans.
Ensure accurate payroll sign-off for night staff.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience in managing soft services within a large, fast-paced operational environment (distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or similar).
Strong people management and leadership experience.
Sound knowledge of cleaning standards, COSHH, H&S legislation, and compliance requirements.
Experience managing night operations or unsociable shift teams.
Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions independently.
Desirable:
IOSH or NEBOSH qualification.
Experience within large distribution centres or 24/7 operations.
Knowledge of waste management and sustainable practices.
